Caroline never talked to Remus about how she felt or what she wanted. Sirius walked back into her life on June 6th and once he convinced Caroline of his innocence, he asked her to move in with him at 12 Grimmuald Place.
Caroline knew that Sirius' name wasn't cleared yet but he was here and he was innocent. She wanted a safe, secure life and Sirius seemed to be able to give her that. Remus, on the other hand, was exposed as a werewolf and had to quit his job, adding onto one of the reasons why Caroline didn't pick him. He was unstable, with no job, no house, and an unchanging condition.
So, in the beginning of summer break, Caroline moved in with Sirius at 12 Grimmuald Place. Little did she know, Caroline wasn't the only one who was offered a home at Sirius' house.
"As much as I love reading with you, Sirius," Caroline said with a small smile, "I would really like to read something other than Dr. Suess."
"Thank Merlin," Sirius huffed as he unwrapped his arms on Caroline's waist. "I was tired of reading."
Caroline giggled and Sirius left their bed to go get something to eat. Sirius looked much better than he had in the Shrieking Shack. His hair was nicely cut and his mustache was shaved, courtesy of Caroline, and his ripped clothes were replaced with a nice navy sweater and dark grey sweatpants.
The only downside of Sirius' appearance was the start of his cigarette addiction. He wasn't allowed to smoke in Azkaban so he smoked more than ever now, using at least 3 cigarettes a day. Almost every room in 12 Grimmuald Place smelled like smoke.
Caroline put the children's poem book on the nightstand and glanced around their bedroom. It was simple and nice, consisting of a bed, nightstand, photos in frames, and their drawers of clothes. It was like their bedroom in their old apartment years ago, except there were different photos now.
There were no more photos of Peter and there was a new photo with Caroline and Severus, a few years ago, when they'd both started teaching. Caroline looked the same since she never aged but Severus looked much younger, more full of light. The photo was a moving picture of Caroline jumping on Severus' back, sending both of them to the floor, laughing.
There were more photos with James and Lily and there were a few photos of Caroline with Luna and Caroline with Harry. In her photo with Harry, he was only 11 and just started at Hogwarts, when he'd just met Caroline. They were smiling and Caroline had her arm wrapped around Harry, although the top of his head was where her waist was.
Caroline went into her nightstand and grabbed a different book, War and Peace. It was a book that Remus had gotten Caroline this year, in attempts to bribe her in a way. She'd never had time to read it until now.
The blonde noticed a small bump in the book and she flipped the pages to where the small bump was. Caroline heard the microwave still going, which meant Sirius would probably be waiting around for his food to finish since he'd rather wait for food instead of reading.
So, Caroline looked at the item that was making a small book and her hand went to her mouth to prevent herself from making any noise. She took the item out delicately and held it with her two fingers, examining it.
It was the ring she gave him as a Christmas gift.
A small plain band with the engravings 'C+R' on the inside. Remus kept the ring, even after all these years.
Caroline heard the sound of the microwave finishing whatever Sirius was heating up and Caroline quickly put the ring back into its spot and slammed the book shut, dropping it into the nightstand drawer and slamming it shut.
Sirius appeared in the doorway with a huge grin on his face. "I preheated cookies and this time, they didn't explode!" he eagerly explained holding up a chocolate chip cookie. "I have mastered the art of microwaving!"
"That's great, Sirius," Caroline nodded. Caroline looked troubled and Sirius was about to ask her about it when there was a knock on the door.
"Can you get that? I'm gonna try to microwave again," Sirius explained before dashing off to the kitchen, not bothering to wait for a response.
Caroline shook her head at Sirius' childishness and got up from the bed. She left the room and walked over to the front door, swinging it open to see Remus. "W-what're you doing here?" Caroline asked.
"I could ask you the same question," Remus huffed, avoiding Caroline's gaze. Remus was not pleased with Caroline's decision to date Sirius again but he knew that it was expected if Sirius did come back and he was innocent.
Sirius' relationship with Caroline had gone much farther than Remus' relationship with Caroline, so although Caroline loved Remus more, she trusted Sirius' ability to provide more.
Sirius grabbed the doorknob and pushed it more open to reveal him standing next to Caroline. Ever since he met Luna and he heard that Caroline didn't want Luna talking to Remus, despite the fact that they seemed closer when Sirius was hiding in Caroline's bathroom as a dog, Sirius thought it best that his best friend and his girlfriend should get along. So, he invited Remus to live with him, not telling Remus that Caroline was there as well.
"Sirius, what is Remus doing here?" Caroline demanded, trying to sound as calm as possible.
"Well," Sirius said, "I invited him to live with us." Sirius gently shoved Caroline out of the way and motioned for Remus to come in, which Remus obliged. The two walked up the stairs and Caroline let out a huff of annoyance before following.
"This is your room," Sirius informed, opening one of the doors. "Unless you want a different one, they're all the same though. There's plenty, so all of these are your choices," Sirius pointed towards the hallway with doors on both sides, "except for this one. This one is mine."
Caroline cleared her throat. "Right, it's ours," Sirius corrected before rolling his eyes. "That room would be mine... and Caroline's." He loved Caroline but he hated sharing things.
"It's fine, I'll stick with this room," Remus nodded, entering his new room. Sirius was going to follow and bother Remus while he unpacked his things but Caroline tugged on Sirius' arm and dragged him into their bedroom.
"Why didn't you tell me that he was coming before hand?" Caroline quizzed.
"Because it's a... surprise?" Sirius replied, adding jazz hands. The blonde sent him a pointed look and Sirius let out a sigh. "Look, I found out that you and Moony don't get along and I thought that you two living in the same house would help."
Caroline groaned. "Please, just try," Sirius begged. "You're my girlfriend and Moony's my best mate. It would hurt me if you didn't like each other. And besides, Remus is a very nice guy. He likes reading and you like reading and he likes... more reading and so do you. Just give it a chance."
"How long is he living with us?"
"Forever and ever and ever!" Sirius chirped happily. "After 12 years away from both of you, I don't want to spend another second more apart."
"Oh, God," Caroline sighed. She quickly pecked Sirius' lips and he grinned wider than before. "You are so lucky that I love you."
"Don't I know it," Sirius laughed. He kissed Caroline deeply, just glad to be in her presence again, and Caroline's arms wrapped around Sirius' neck as the two drifted over to the bed.
From the other room, Remus could hear muffled sounds and he let out an annoyed groan. He pulled his wand out and held it up. "Muffliatio! Scratch that, muffliato maximo, MAXIMO I SAY!"
A/N: leaving it here for tonight :) prolly won't update for a few days so MWA HA HA
