Chapter 14 – Realization

The next day Delilah went searching for Zach. She couldn’t stay here anymore and be married to him. She didn’t want to get married against her will. She still had hope that she could go back to the skies. But never seeing Zach again left a sharp ache in her chest. She had to do what she had to do.

She walked into the courtyard and found him training with a few men. She immediately walked towards him and stood next to him. The men immediately stopped what they were doing and bowed their head and greeted her saying Luna.

She immediately put her hands forward and said “no no. you don’t have to do that.” And she moved forward to pat the man on his arm when Zach let out a low growl. She turned to him to see what was wrong with him but instead he was glaring at her hand which was stretched out to pat the man. She slowly pulled back her hand and his expression calmed. Delilah didn’t know what to make of that. She knew werewolves are very possessive and protective and are extremely feral.

And he being an alpha would double the amount of possessiveness and protectiveness that normal werewolves have. Zach looked at the men and nodded at them and they immediately bowed their head and walked away without looking back.

Delilah turned to Zach and opened her mouth to speak but he interrupted her “you are not leaving.” He said and started walking towards the house. She stared behind him her mouth hanging open.

“How did you know I was going to ask you that? And you can’t just say that! I can leave if I want to.” Delilah said running behind him to catch up.

“you can’t.” he said and started striding into the door.

“Slow down!” Delilah said finally catching up with him “please Zach, I have to leave. You can’t keep me here against my will.”

Zach caught hold of her hand “you have to stay here. You have no choice, you are not safe outside. There are people out to get you and I have to protect you.”

“Why do you have to protect me? I can just go to the police, that’s what police in the human world are made for aren’t they?” she asked looking up at him.

“because they can’t handle supernatural beings. They will die if they try! And no one else can protect you except me. You’re mine. My mate. My woman.” He said glaring down at her.

Delilah felt a surge of heat go up her cheeks. He called her his woman, why did hearing that feel so good? Delilah wondered.

“But….but…I didn’t want to marry you. I thought I could still find a way to go back! I can’t stay on earth, it isn’t my home.” She said halfheartedly. She didn’t want to leave him, even though he was a huge bulldozer she liked him. She felt protected and content when she was around him. But at the same time she knew he had no feelings for her. He was doing this out of a sense of righteousness.

But what about that kiss? That didn’t look so righteous. Her conscience asked her, she couldn’t answer that. They did have this huge attraction going on which is not easy to ignore.

“You want to go back?” Zach asked. He never thought about her going back! Could she do that? Zach didn’t like that thought one bit.

She was never supposed to be able to leave him. He could make her stay here if she just wanted to leave town but she wanted to leave the face of earth. He could never let her go! she was his mate. Meant to be with him, she was made for him. She was created just for him. That was why they sent her to earth, because she couldn’t be there when she was my other half.

The stark realization of that undid Zach. She was his, his angel, his love. He felt like a huge burden had been lifted from his shoulders. He always knew he would never let her leave because she was his mate and werewolves are very possessive. They would never let their mates out of their sights. But he realized it was love. That attraction at first was just a mate thing, but now that he had let out the flood of emotions in him he realized he loved her.

Not just her face, which was beautiful, but the way she laughed her eyes twinkling, the way she scrunched her perky little nose, how the sunlight light glints on her beautiful hair. The way she lifts up her chin defiantly when she stands up to him. Her courage, this world is unknown to her but she still wanted to take up the whole thing on her shoulders. She was astounding.

Zach looked down at her and wrapped his hands around her waist and gently pulled her close. Delilah startled looked up at him with a question in her eyes.

“Lilah, you can’t go back. Your life is here with me now. I’m your mate you have to stay with me. Once a werewolf mates with his true mate it’s for life. They cannot live without the other. They wither away in grief or turn rogue and destroy themselves. Or they take their own lives. Do you want that to happen?” Zach asked her gently. Knowing he was manipulating her feelings. She had such a beautiful heart she could never see another person suffer.

“You will die? No, that can’t happen. Can’t you find another mate?” she asked trying to keep her head straight. Being so close to him was doing things to her that she didn’t want to admit.

“There is only one true mate for a werewolf Lilah. Once a mate is gone the other cannot survive in this world without them. So now tell me. Do you still want to leave?” Zach asked tightening his hold around her and he held his breath.
