Chapter 1 – Waitressing

Present Day

“Can I take your order?” Delilah Peterson asked tucking a strand of black hair behind her ear and staring at the elderly couple sitting in front of her.

“Yes. I would like some pancakes with some strawberries and an orange juice” Said the woman.

Delilah turned to the man jotting down the order in her tiny notebook.

“I would like toasts with eggs. Scrambled, bacon on the side and a cup of coffee thank you” said the man.

“Your order will be there in 2 minutes! Have a lovely breakfast.” Delilah said and smiled turning to leave.

The elderly couple was in a stupor.

“That girl has the most beautiful smile I have ever seen.” The man said.

“Yes she has a beautiful face but that smile is precious.” The woman said watching Delilah's retreating back.

Delilah walked into the kitchen to give her order while thinking about the dazed look the couple had on their face when she had smiled at them.

Well angels have that effect on people Delilah thought. But she didn’t think a fallen one would have the same effect.

She thought about the day she was thrown out of heaven. She had no idea why they did that but it had been a painful experience and she never wanted to relive it again.

She had walked around the small town not knowing where to go dressed only in a shabby white robe. So she had decided to hide. But she didn’t know the human body needed food after every four hours. So she had come out of her hiding place and walked into the town.

She had been walking at the side of the road when three bikers had cornered her. She had had no idea what to do. That was when a bald man with a really bulky tummy had rescued her.

“Hello dear. I hope you’re alright? My name is Wallace Jackson.” the man had introduced himself. Delilah had just nodded. He had looked at her expectantly and she had realized he was waiting for her to give her name.

“Delilah….ummm Delilah Peterson.” She had said. She had seen that surname in a big board somewhere. She didn’t like lying but she did not have a surname so she had to give him a fake one.

Then he had asked her to work for him at Wally’s Diner and she had had no reason to protest so she said yes. And she loved working in Wally’s. She loved talking to all the people who came in. she found humans very fascinating. Waitressing was hard at first. She didn’t know how to interact. But once she got a hang of it very person who entered Wally's left with a big satisfied smile on their faces.

She was a joy bringer when she was in heaven. She missed her friends there. But she knew she couldn’t go back, it was all in the past now.

She went back to the elderly couple and gave them their food.

“Well enjoy!” she said smiling and saw the dazed look on their faces again. She just shook her head and walked back into the kitchen.

“Hey Lilah!” Sarah said putting on her apron. Delilah and Sarah had become good friends once she had joined Wally's.  Sarah was really sweet and kind.

“Hey Sarah! Why are you late today?” Delilah asked.

“There was a party last night! Came back home around 2am! So asked Mr. Wally if I could come in late and he said ok! He is such a sweetheart! How many employers let us come in late for work because we had a late night?” Sarah asked putting her blond hair into a ponytail.

Just then Delilah so three men come in and occupy an empty table.

“Well yes! But duty calls right now. Catch you later.” Delilah said feeling proud of herself.

“I love using these phrases” Delilah thought “they sounded so…ummm what was that word ya cool! They sounded so cool and there was one more word…yes they also sounded catchy. ” She smiled to herself saying the word in her head again to see how it sounds. She had never used these phrases before and she liked saying them.

She walked towards the table the men had occupied. She tossed her waist length black hair behind her shoulder and pulled out her notebook.

As she got closer to the table she started getting a vibe. She knew immediately there was going to be trouble.

“Good morning, what can I get you sir?” she asked making sure to look into her notebook and not their faces.

“What’s special?” the man on the right with blond hair and blue eyes asked. She thought he was a good looking man but she was feeling uncomfortable in their presence.

“Peach pie and cherry pudding.” She said trying hard to stand still and not back away.

“Hmmmm you look like a peach.” Said the man on the right

“And I wouldn’t mind have you with a cherry on top.” Said the man in the middle.

Delilah felt her face flaming red. She had never been spoken to outrageously before!

“Can you just please give you order?” Delilah said wanting to throw something at them.

“Whats wrong babe? Don’t like cherries?” the blond man asked taking hold of her wrist. She tried shaking of his hand but he held on tight.

“Let me go mister!” Delilah said pulling at her hand again. She was starting to get frightened.

“Now why would I do that?” the man asked tightening his hold and smiling wickedly.

“Because I’m telling you to” said a gruff voice from behind her. Delilah turned and looked at the man standing in the doorway. She stood still staring in wonder.

The man had the most beautiful pair of eyes she had ever seen. They were silver, bright silver and those yes were blazing with anger.

The man immediately let go of her hand and walked towards the silver eyed man. They bowed their head and walked out. She thought she heard them say “sorry alpha” but she wasn’t sure.

She swallowed hard and decided she has to thank the man even though he could swallow her up in a second. She worked up her nerve and walked towards him. He looked scary.

She stopped in front of him and said “umm….thank you for helping Me.” but she made a mistake of looking straight up into his eyes. She regretted immediately. She was mesmerized by his eyes. They glittered in the sunlight with a hint of black. Slowly her eyes traced his face. Thick eyebrows, long lashes, high cheekbones with a broad chin and a squared jaw. He had looks a girl would kill for. At last she stopped at his mouth. She couldn’t understand the feeling coursing through her and she didn’t appreciate them. She swallowed lightly and her breathing got faster.

She thought she saw a hint of amusement in his eyes but it was gone before she could be sure.

“Mr. Jones! It’s so good to see you. It’s a total surprise seeing you here.” Mr. Wally said pulling her out of her daze. Mr. Wally looked very scared.

“Who wouldn’t be? the man is huge!” Delilah thought.

“I see you have met Delilah. She is new here, just joined two months ago.”  Mr. Wally said when the man didn’t reply. “Would you like anything to eat?”

“I have to leave. Tell the girl to stay out of trouble.” And he was gone. Just like that. Delilah stared after him feeling a pang of disappointment. She didn’t know why! But she didn’t want to feel this way. She knew one thing. He was dangerous and she had to stay away from him even though he just made her heart flip.
