Chapter 2 – Disturbance

Zach sat down on his chair and stared at the fireplace. He couldn’t seem to get his mind of the brown haired siren he had seen in the diner.

“Delilah” he said out loud. Her name easily rolling of his tongue, it felt wonderful saying it out loud.

He had been driving past the diner when he had sensed a disturbance. Years of using his instincts made him rely on them. He had immediately parked his car and walked into the diner and had stopped dead.

He had smelt the most wonderful smell. Peaches and flowers. His wolf had immediately started shouting in his head.

Mate! Mate! Help Mate!” his wolf never spoke complete sentences.

After helping her from not so grave situation even though he had been burning with anger seeing the other man’s hand on his mate he left.

He told his wolf clearly.”She is not going to be our mate! Ever”

She had shyly come up to him and thanked him, most men peed in their pants when they saw him.

She had sweetly looked up at him and thanked him. She looked tiny and delicate. She barely reached his shoulder. It all raised his protective instincts. He just wanted to carry her away and lock her up. But he had tamped down all his territorial instincts. He didn’t want her. He could never trust her.

But he couldn’t help looking into her soft brown eyes. He could see the innocence in them. The one he had lost 50 years ago.

He knew she wasn’t a werewolf but she didn’t smell quite human either. She smelt different. Something was seriously fishy. He didn’t know what.

He was shaken out of his thoughts when he heard a knock on the door and his beta walked in.

“Whats wrong Jason?” Zach asked in that intimidating voice of his.

“There has been a rogue attack alpha” Jason said trying to gauge Zach’s reaction.

Jason was the only man Zach spoke to. But it wasn’t much. Alpha Zach was a man of very few words, but every word he said held a meaning. People were terrified of him but at the same time they showed him great respect.

“Any deaths?” Zach asked. There was no emotion in his voice. Jason didn’t expect to see one either. He sometimes wondered if alpha Zach had emotions.

“No alpha. But two wolfs are injured.” Jason answered.

“Take them to the pack doctor. I’ll take care of the rogues.” And Zach was out of the door. He moved in lightning speed. Jason knew the rogues didn’t stand a chance if alpha Zach was hunting them down. He sensed his alpha had something on his mind or he wouldn’t have gone to take care of the rogues himself. He just didn’t know what was bothering him.

Zach changed into his white wolf and ran into the woods. His shiny white sheen with a hint of silver was not easy to miss. But he was fast. Very fast. He ran through the forest, tracking the scents of the rogues. He wanted to rip them apart for stepping into his territory and coming close to his mate. But he didn’t want to accept that fact. He wanted to hate her.

He ran faster getting angry at himself. All of a sudden he smelt the rogues scent. He immediately moved in that direction. He stalked them silently and found them watching an apartment’s window. He saw the shadow of a figure move toward the window and slowly open it. The person leaned their head forward to look out. That’s when he saw the thick brown hair and a beautiful face.

His mate

He could feel the protectiveness rising in his body.

How dare they come near my mate.

He growled loudly. Anger rising. The wolfs turned to look who it was and he pounced. This is the first time he did something without thinking through. He slashed his paws across the rogue’s face and put his paw through the wolf’s heart and he ripped the head of the other rogue.

He was breathing heavily. Trying to control his instincts. His wolf hadn’t taken over him and he thanked the moon goddess for that. He looked up towards the window and found it empty. He sighed in relief and stalked away from the scene.

He ran into the woods towards his lake and dipped himself into the water to wash away the blood.

“Jason bring me some clothes” he mind linked Jason cleaning himself up and closed the link off.

His beat reached him in a few minutes and handed over his clothes to him.

“Rogues are dead. Ask someone to clean up the mess.” And Zach walked away.

Jason stood there dumbstruck. He could feel the admiration coursing through his body as he stared at his Alpha’s retreating back. It hadn’t even been 10 minutes and the rogues were dead. He had seen his alpha do this a thousand times, but every time his admiration increased a notch. And he didn’t think it was going to stop anytime soon.
