Chapter – 5 - embarrassed

Zach scowled down at Delilah.

“Where did you find that dress?” he demanded angrily and immediately turned his scowling face towards Megan.

“What is it doing here?” he asked her.

“Umm….I don’t know alp...sir.” Megan stammered.

“Can I buy this dress?” came a small voice from behind Zach.

Zach turned his attention back to Delilah and said icily.

“You wouldn’t be able to afford it. Now get out of that dress and hand it over.”

Delilah looked taken aback.

“But I want it” she said

“Go and remove this dress now.” Zach said again.

His wolf was shouting at him asking him not to talk to his mate like that.

You’re hurting her feelings Zach! Stop it. She’s mine!

“Ours!” Zach replied back. “I mean she is nobody’s! Now shut up. I’ll handle her.”

He ignored his wolf’s shouting and stared down at Delilah waiting for her to walk into the changing room. But she did exactly the opposite.

“Who are you to tell me to remove this dress?” Delilah asked haughtily.

Zach was outraged. No one had ever dared to speak back to him! And this tiny little human thought she could!

“Remove it now or I will have to do it for you!” He said taking a menacing step forward

Delilah raised her chin and put her hands on her hips.

“Look here mister. I do not know you, you helped me once that doesn’t mean I have to obey every word you say! You are not my one true deity!” She said furiously.

Zach wondered who the one true deity was but got distracted looking at her. She looked like a little pixie! He furiously smashed the thought.

He took another step forward and reached for her when she put her hand up.

“I will not take off this dress because you say so. This is Megan’s shop and she can tell me whether I can buy this dress or not.” Saying Delilah turned to Megan with such a hopeful smile on her face she almost agreed with her.

Zach cleared his throat and Megan looked up at Zach and knew what she had to do.

“I’m sorry miss but this dress is not for sale you must take it off.” Megan said hardening her heart as she saw the smile drop from Delilah's face.

“Now you’ve heard her go and remove the dress and don’t take your own damned time.” Zach said in a hard voice.

Delilah looked up at Zach in humiliation, her cheeks red in embarrassment. She turned and stalked into the dressing room.

Megan stared after the woman wondering why alpha Zach was so mean to her. she had never seen him act so cruel to a defenseless woman before, but at the same time she had never seen him so rattled by a woman.

Megan straightened as the lady came out the trial room holding the dress to her chest. She walked towards Megan and Megan braced herself for whatever insults the woman would throw at her. But instead the woman totally ignored alpha Zach and smiled at her. She handed over the dress and said

“I’m so sorry to bother you like this Megan. You have lovely clothes in your shop and I’m sorry I couldn’t buy the pretty dress. I will come back again when there isn’t some unwanted company” she said stressing the unwanted making alpha Zach growl, Megan had to hide a smile. “And by the way I’m Delilah. I work at Wally’s diner. You can come over any time, I would appreciate it! bye!” saying she left not even acknowledging alpha Zach.

Megan decided to take Delilah up on her offer. She really liked the woman. Then she turned towards alpha Zach wiping out all expressions from her face. Her alpha could be very scary, she really didn’t know how her brother Jason went around with him all day.

“I’m sorry alpha this won’t happen again.” Megan said bowing her head.

“See that it doesn’t” and he too strode out of the shop without a backward glance.

Zach sat down in his study and twirled a glass of whiskey thinking about his little mate. His wolf was hyper active since he had sensed his mate and Zach was having a hard time arguing with his wolf and telling him Delilah was never going to be their mate.

His thoughts went back to the morning when he had seen Delilah in the dress. It belonged to his mother. It had been for generations in the family. It passed down to every Luna in the family. It was meant for the Luna. She was supposed to be wearing it for the mating ceremony. But he was not gonna have one! He thought viciously.

Delilah had looked beautiful in it but he had tamped down his desire and instead had lashed out at her. He had expected her to obey him instantly, that’s what everyone did but she had done exactly the opposite. And instead of getting angry with her his desire had just risen. He had seen the courage in her face. Her stubborn chin lifted up in defiance.

“A true alpha female.” he thought and his wolf happily barked in agreement.

But he immediately denied the fact. He wasn’t meant to have a mate. She would be his greatest weakness. And he could imagine how that little pixie would be his greatest downfall.
