Chapter 4 – Shopping
Delilah woke up with a catch in her neck.
“Getting used to this human body is hard” she muttered and stood up stretching. She looked down at the blanket pooled around her feet. She bent and picked it up and looked at it curiously.
“How did this get here?” she wondered. She shrugged and folded the blanket and placed it back in the cupboard.
She started doing her morning chores that she had started a few months back. Brushing her teeth, bathing and making her own breakfast. She still found brushing her teeth very fascinating.
She dressed into her uniform, a white shirt and a knee length black skirt. She took her keys and walked to wards the front door. And suddenly
“Ring ring” she dropped her keys and shrieked the phone was ringing... She let out a sigh of frustration and stomped towards the phone. Whenever that thingamabob rang it scared her out of her mind.
Delilah picked up the annoying device and held it to her ear.
“Hello?”
“Hello dear, this is Wally!” came a cheerful voice.
“Oh! Hello Mr. Wally! I was just leaving home.” Delilah said smiling.
“Yes dear. But today we’re going to be closed, I have to be somewhere.” Mr. Wally said.
“Oh ok! No problem” she said
“Bye then love! See you tomorrow!” and the line disconnected.
Mr. Wally sounded like a grandfather would! He always used endearments and pets her on her head. It was very sweet!
Delilah sat there wondering what she was going to do today. She had a day off. Usually during Sunday’s she stayed home, never went out. She didn’t know where to go but she was curious to see what was around town. Well today is her day to find out.
She changed into a pair of jeans and a sweater. She pocketed some money as she went out the front door.
She stood out her building and wondered to go. She looked down at herself and decided she needed some new clothes and maybe something to eat. She remembered seeing a small boutique in the other side of town. So she walked towards not knowing it was in the ‘dark eagle territory’ and no humans went there. Humans get strange vibes when they step into the territory so they stayed away.
Delilah oblivious to everything walked into the shop. A pretty girl was sitting behind the counter. She had brown hair that curled around her pretty face. The girl was watching the door as though she expected Delilah to walk in anytime.
“Hello. I'm Megan. How can I help you?” the girl asked smiling at Delilah.
“Hi! I’m Delilah. I’m new in town and wanted to buy some clothes” Delilah said looking around the shop.
“You’ve come to the right place. What kind of clothes do you want? We have dresses, pants, shirts, suits, summer dresses, cocktail dresses...” she said ticking them of her fingers.
But Delilah wasn’t listening. She was staring at a dress in the far corner of the shop.
“Ok you don’t have to answer.” Megan said noticing Delilah not paying attention. “Go on in! If you see something you like go into the trial room and try it on” and she turned back to the register.
Delilah walked towards the dress in a kind of daze. She touched the dress and she knew that it was meant for her and no other. She walked towards the trial room holding the dress tightly to her chest.
She put on the dress and stared at herself in the mirror. It was perfect. It was a long flowy white satin dress with a deep V-neck and an open back. It had a gold belt with tiny stones. It fitted to her waist perfectly and gently flowed down to her ankle.
Delilah decided she was going to buy the dress. She walked out the trial room wanting to know how much she had to pay for it.
She opened the door and walked out and immediately collided with a hard wall. She looked up and realized it was someone’s back. She rubbed her forehead and stepped to the side and looked at Megan standing across the man she had banged into. She didn’t realize the man’s body go as stiff as stone.
Delilah heard a sharp intake of breath and realized Megan staring at her with wide eyes.
Megan stared at Delilah.
“How the hell did she get the dress?” she wondered “but she looked like an angel! So pretty!” she didn’t know how the woman had found it, it wasn’t meant to be in the shop.
Delilah smiled at the woman and opened her mouth to ask her about the price of the dress when she heard a growl. She stopped and looked slowly up into the scowling face of Zachary Jones.
