She looks me up and down.
"Wh-what are you doing here?" She asks.
"Oh, uh, you know, health issues." I reply awkwardly. She nods her head.
"Why are you here?" I ask, trying to shift focus of the conversation from me.
"I was, um, visiting a friend."
"Hye-min?" I ask, a bit worried.
She shakes her head.
"No, I actually transferred." She says while looking down.
"That's great!" I say excitedly. "You needed to get out of there, so your mom finally let you?"
She looks back up at me, tears rolling down her cheeks. She struggles to hold back more tears. I frown.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I ask. She begins to cry. She shuffles towards me, engulfing me in a hug before continuing to cry in my chest. I stand there, unsure of what to do.
"Where have you been?" she asks through her tears "I really needed you." She sobbed.
I sighed and raised my hand to pat her head, I take my other arm to hug her back.
"I never meant to leave you." I whisper to her. "It's just... stuff happened."
"Like what?" She asks, slightly with an angry tone. She releases her grip of me and wipes her eyes and nose with her shirt sleeve. "You just left out of no where and never even returned my texts or calls. I didn't even get to tell you how I stayed up all night to make cookies for a guy I liked only to get completely humiliated! I needed you and you were gone!" She bursts out saying before going back to crying.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there for you." I say softly before taking her into a light hug. She continues to cry into my shoulder.
-
"I'll kill her." I say as Jugyeong and I sit on a bench outside. I turn to her. "I'll break both of Semi's arms and film her in pain!"
"No, don't do that. I'm transferred now and have good friends."
"Ah, right, like the mystery one you were visiting."
I notice her smile to herself out of the corner of my eye.
"Is it someone special?" I tease. She nods her head. I gasp. "Really? Who?" I say, curious.
"My... boyfriend." She says hesitantly. Then she squeals. She looks at me with a happy expression. I gasp and slap her shoulder.
"You have a boyfriend? Wow, I'm not surprised, you are pretty after all."
She cringes.
"You should really stop lying to me."
"When have I ever?" I ask. She rolls her eyes.
"So, how did you meet him?"
"At the comic shop."
"Oh, so he's a nerd too?"
She slaps my shoulder and I laugh.
"He confessed to me on our school trip." She says while in a daze, probably recalling the moment. I smile.
"I'm happy for you." I say. She looks at me and smiles.
"I was so worried. I came rushing here because I heard he got hit by a car."
I freeze. No way.
"He did?"
"Yeah, I came to visit him. I ran all the way here from my house."
I nod my head.
"What are your friends like? Are they better than me?"
She laughs.
"No one can replace you, Yusoi. But, I actually got pretty good at makeup, so they don't know what I really look like." She says, guilt written all over her face.
"Hm, I see. But, if they're as nice as you claimed, then they won't care. Because either way, you're pretty."
She looks at me and smiles. She bumps her shoulder on mine and blushes.
"You should really stop feeding my ego."
I laugh.
"That's probably the best part about my boyfriend," she says, turning to me "he likes me for me." She says with a bright smile. I return it. "You never told me," she continues "why exactly are you in the hospital?"
I turn away from her.
"I've had this heart condition ever since I was a kid, and it only recently got worse. I would go in for the past six years for constant check up's when it suddenly got really bad. That's why I left suddenly, I had a stroke." I say, turning back to her. I see her worried expression. "I can't afford to pay for surgery, so I'm kind of just stuck here, counting my days." I turn away from her and look at the stars. "It doesn't help that my dad passed recently."
"What?" She says, worried. She places her hand on my shoulder. "What about your mom then? Does she come to visit you?"
"She can't. I don't know where she is." I reply.
"I'm so sorry, Yusoi."
I turn to her and smile.
"Don't be. I hate the sympathy."
She takes her hand away from my shoulder and holds my hand.
"Well, no need to be down, you have me." She says.
She gives me a bright smile, giggling. She squeezes my hand.
"Yeah. At least I have you."
-
I grab the gift bag and head down the hall. I see the name plaque of Han Seojun and a Lee Suho. I muster up all of my dignity and knock on the door. I hear two voices talking when the door opens, Seojun standing behind it.
"What do you want?" He asks, clearly tired.
I hold out the bag, waiting for him to take it. He scoffs.
"I don't want the trash." He says, about to close the door.
I roll my eyes and take his hand to give him the bag.
"I didn't eat any of it, moron. It's not my food to eat." I say.
He looks at me, then the bag, and then back at me.
"Did you put poison in it?" He asks, checking the bag.
"No, but maybe I should have."
He 'tsks' while moving his arm to make it seem like he's going to punch me.
"Why are you giving it back then? Didn't you say you didn't eat yesterday?"
"I didn't. But, something changed my mind."
He's lucky Jugyeong's my friend. But if she says he likes her for her, then he can't be that bad of a person.
"Mhm, right. Well, thanks." He replies flatly before closing the door in my face.
I take it back, he has to be that bad.
