"Okay, time for checks." I hear Jisoo say with an unenthusiastic tone.
I turn to look at her, lowering the volume on the tv.
"Where is Haeun? She normally does my morning checks."
Jisoo stays quiet. I roll my eyes as she continues to check my vitals, writing stuff down.
"Is she sick? Should I be worried?"
Jisoo sighs. She clicks her pen, turning towards me.
"Haeun simply asked to be assigned to another patient."
She clicks her pen once more, going back to my vitals. Meanwhile I sit there, confused. Why would Haeun do that? She's been my nurse for years.
"But, why would she do that?" I asked, even more confused despite getting an answer.
Jisoo sighs, this time looking at me with sad eyes. I feel a rush of worry pass throughout my body.
"Did something bad happen?" I say quickly and worried.
Jisoo shakes her head.
"She told me what happened. Haeun felt that she was becoming too attached and when you commented about her not being your mother-"
"Well tell her I'm sorry! Tell her I didn't mean any of that! Please, I miss her."
Jisoo sighs.
"Yusoi-"
"Whatever, it's fine I guess." I say before rolling on my side, opposite of the direction Jisoo was in.
I hear her pen click once again and then her footsteps leaving my room.
-
I close the door to my room, ready to go take a walk outside.
"Go ahead and kiss!" I hear a high-pitched voice say.
I stop and look in the direction of the voice. It's coming from Seojun and Suho's room. I stand there, confused, when the door opens and a boy walks out. He closes the door and giggles to himself. He turns around and gasps when he sees me.
"Woah, no way! Jeong Yusoi!"
It was Juyoung. I smile, it feels like it's been forever since I last saw him. He comes rushing over to me, opening his arms to hug me.
"Hey Juyoung." I say just before he tackles me with a hug. I laugh.
"What are you doing here? No wait, don't tell me. You got the flu." He says, pointing his finger towards me with an excited face.
"If I did, why did you hug me?"
His face falls with the sudden realization. His hand falls back to his sides.
"Yeah, you're right, it's probably not that. Let me guess again." He says, shaking off the previous thought.
He looks at me curiously. I smile. I've known him for a long time and I know he's not as dumb as he pretends to be. I could tell he's noticed my appearance, but I appreciate him for trying.
"Ah! I got it!" He says with certainty. He turns and points back at me. "You came to cure a hangover." He makes a gun with his fingers, blowing off pretend smoke from the tip. He smiles with satisfaction.
"You caught me." I say.
"Wow, I would have never picked you as the type to drink underage! For shame, I should tell your dad." He says.
My smile falls, but I try to hide it.
"Yeah, yeah. What are you doing here? Why did you come from Seojun and Suho's room?"
"Oh! You know them?"
"Not officially, no."
"My mom made me drop off food for Seojun. Apparently she's close with his mom."
"Ah I see. Well, tell your mom I said 'hi' when you get back home."
"Will do." He says confidently.
I smile, ready to walk off.
"Well, I'm going to go." I say.
"I should go too. Jugyeong and Suho were getting pretty intimate in there." He whispers.
My eyes widen. He turns back to the room, shuddering. He turns back to me and smiles.
"Bye!" He says before passing by me and walking away.
I stand there, trying to already pretend I didn't hear what he just said to me.
-
I walk past the secretary's desk, returning from my walk outside. I reach into my jacket's pocket, glad that I put a bill in there so I could get a drink afterwards.
I was making my way over to the vending machine when I see Seojun and Jugyeong. Her hair appears to be messy. I shudder, recalling what Juyoung said to me earlier. Just then, Jugyeong 'rawrs' in Seojun's face. She does it two more times, smiling, and then waving goodbye. Weird. I watch as she walks away and then notice Seojun still standing there, looking at his cast with a saddened expression. He walks over to the seating area by the vending machine, taking a seat, and looking out of the window.
I sigh and make my way over there. I pretend like I didn't just see all of that and continue to get myself a drink. I put the bill in. Nothing. I press what drink I want. Nothing. I wait for the drink to be disposed. Nothing. I grab the drink. Nothing. Any normal person would have taken that as a hint being that he didn't want to talk. I was about to walk away when I remembered his expression after what I said last night.
"She would never date someone like you." I cringe. How could I be so rude? I turn to look at him and just as I expected, he's upset. I can only guess he walked in on Jugyeong and Suho. I sigh, looking at my drink and then back at him. I walk over to him, holding my drink out in front of his face. He looks at it, then at me.
"What are you doing?" He asks with a tone I can't quite tell is either annoyed or disheartened.
"Just take it." I say.
He pushes the drink away from his face and continues to look out of the window.
"I don't want it."
I roll my eyes and grab his uninjured arm. I put the drink in his hand. My eyes scan his cast, and I see something Jugyeong most definitely wrote: "Tiger energy boost! Rawr!" He looks at me with a now annoyed expression.
"Hey-"
"There's no point in you sitting here being upset, that's not going to change anything. Just take the nice gesture and focus your attention on that. Eventually, you'll be happy." I say, interrupting him.
He looks at me, no longer annoyed. I smile softly and grab my IV pole before walking away.
