Nao splashed more water on his face making his bangs hang in front of his eyes. He stared back at the mirror. Groaning he rested his forehead on the countertop.
Had Nao had enough mental breakdowns recently? Yes. Was he having another one? Obviously.
Who could blame the kid though? He hadn't expected to get this far in the sports festival. He didn't think he'd get anywhere if he hadn't broken Todoroki's ice once before but because of that and being in a fairly successful cavalry battle Nakabayashi Nao was now in the individual battles.
He had planed to stand there cheering all his friends on but now it appeared they would be cheering for him. What's more he had a pretty step battle coming up, Ashido shouldn't be underestimated. His only advantage was, well, his quirk. Acid couldn't get through his forcefields, but only his close friends and now Todoroki knew that.
With a sigh Nao forced himself back into a standing position. 'This is to show off' he told himself, staring intently at the mirror 'I'll just wait until she tires herself out then bump her out of the ring with a bubble'. Deep breaths in and out Nao repeated to himself, reaching for the bathroom door.
"I pledge I will beat you today, Midoriya.". That sounded like Todoroki. Nao spun right back around at that. No way was he making that conversation any more awkward than it probably already was. Todoroki had like, negative social skills. He didn't particularly like Midoriya either, but Nao and his peppermint classmate were pretty much even after the U.S.J and burn incident so he thought they were friends. Todoroki didn't think that, but he didn't have to know.
Carefully Nao tested his quirk, tiny glowing forcefields appearing around his hands. Like that he could do three at once, but on a larger scale he didn't have enough control over them. What he had gotten better at was the size of bubble he could make while pushing things away from himself. The sports field was a bit big but if Ashido was in a convenient place it should be a problem.
This was all for his future. He needed to do his best and advertise himself as a rescue hero. There also was a delusional part of him that thought since the sports festival got a tiny amount of international attention his parents would be watching. He thought it was a dumb thing to get his hopes up but he still wanted them to at least know he was doing what he had always wanted to. Right, that's what this is really about, living his dream. His classmates that didn't get into the final third were still going to be heroes, this wasn't the end.
Finally he had calmed down enough to leave the bathroom. He tried to ignore whatever match Present Mic was shouting about over the loud speaker and walk to the 1-A waiting room but of course that wasn't what happened. He hit a wall. A tall purple haired wall.
"Ah! You're Shinso." Nao said, pointing out the obvious. "And you're annoying." He replied. Nao laughed a little bit and shook his head. "Lets not fight, bird of a feather flock together and all that." Nao said, pointing to Shinso's hair and his own.
The gen studies student just rolled his eyes. "If you had such a nice sense of loyalty you wouldn't have trapped yourself in a bubble while your teammates got the headbands." Shinso pointed out "Doesn't seem very heroic.".
"It wasn't my strategy but no one took any of the ones I was holding, did they?" Nao said with a wink. Shinso wasn't amused and just huffed and walked away. Disappointed, Nao continued on the waiting room.

"Ready...START!"
Mina was off like a bullet the moment Midnight began the match. Nao figured he had to be quicker so he carefully pulled himself into the middle of the ring. Acid brushed by his face and Nao realized he was stalling too much. Perfect position to shove her out wasn't going to happen with how well she slid around.
