14: How Did This Happen?

Disclaimer: Featured in this arc and chapter of my fanfic is the pro hero Native. I understand that some people do not have problems with his design but many see his character as cultural insensitivity, as do I. Please do not take my inclusion of this hero in my fanfic to mean I condone any form of cultural appropriation.  

Nao heard a scream from inside the alleyway and ran in. He was on patrol, he could handle this. 

He couldn't handle this. Iida was on the ground, bleeding and not moving and Izuku was fighting and shouting at what had to be the hero killer. Both his friends had mentioned him and Nao knew Iida had been secretly looking for him after his older brother was attacked. But he couldn't handle this. 

Taking a deep breath before anyone had noticed him, Nao made a plan. Iida and another pro hero were bloody and on the ground, they came first for a rescue hero. Right as Nao moved in Midoriya took the hero killer from above. The teen took his moment and jumped in, putting a forcefield around everyone but the two fighting. 

"Nakabayashi-" Iida mumbled. Nao dropped to his knees and pulled first aid supplies out of his updated costume that Momo had helped him with. "Nao, they're paralyzed by his quirk!" Midoriya shouted breathlessly. Nao looked on in horror as he realized neither could move at all. 

He grabbed Iida's shoulders carefully and began applying pressure. "I've got you guys, don't worry.". 

"Another hero wannabe!" Stain seethed. The hairs on Nao's neck pricked up at his voice. This was the hero killer, in the flesh. Attacking them. Suddenly, Midoriya fell to the ground and stopped moving. The hero killer laughed as Nao's classmate struggled. "You have potential kid." He told the green haired boy "I won't be killing you, or your purple friend.". Somehow Nao was not relieved as Stain approached the forcefield. "But it is my duty to kill those two!". 

Right as the hero killer threw a knife at the impenetrable bubble, Todoroki appeared on the scene, burning the villain's face. "Kick Midoriya to me!" Nao shouted urgently "He's out of push back range!". Todoroki obeyed and shoved a paralyzed Midoriya back. The bubble expanded to include him. 

"You need to provide more than a location, I was almost too late to help." Todoroki said, wielding his flames. Midoriya's eyes were focused on the battle as Nao tended to the only pro hero there's wound. "Don't let him see your blood!" Midoriya shouted to Todoroki, who was holding the villain off. The lavender haired teen couldn't help but worry about if Todoroki could keep it up on his own. He could do the 'right' thing and protect the half and half teen too, but they needed to capture the hero killer. This might be their only chance. 

His quirk was useless in combat here. If he tried to punch Stain with his forcefields he'd seal his fate. That much glass was only bound to cut someone and trigger the hero killer's quirk. When it looked like Native would pull through and Iida had been butterfly bandaged together, they could hear Todoroki shouting at the hero killer.

"You're strong." The teen admitted, sending another wall of ice at the villain. Iida twitched on the ground, his eyes also fixed on the battle. 

"Stand down!" He said, struggling to his feet "The hero killer is mine to defeat! For Tensei!". Iida was furious. There was an air of desperation about him that didn't sit properly with Nao. It wasn't like Iida to grasp and fight like this. He thought everything through, this was pure rage boiling over. 

"Ingenium would never have that vengeful glare!" Todoroki said, raising a wall of ice. Iida pushed against the forcefield and, realizing he wasn't getting out, turned to Nao. "I will fight." He said sternly. Nao got on his feet and stood in front of him.
