Kiira couldn't resist any longer, so she made her way to the dance floor as they, finally, looked as though they were ready to break off. She had never been so happy for Chase as she was right now. He deserved this, regardless of what he thought of himself, and she seemed like the perfect match for her friend. She waited until their embrace loosened a bit before sliding up beside of them, bumping her hip against Chase's "Hey you two... you need to leave enough room for Jesus in between you." she laughed. "That's funny Kiira... I didn't think you were on the chaperones list tonight." he smiled over at her, leaving his arm around Devyn as they walked back to the table. "It's almost time to watch Satan being crowned." Kiira said with a smirk. "Yeah.. we wouldn't want to miss that." Devyn said with a giggle.
They headed back to their table, being joined by Liam and Ashleigh, taking their seats as the school staff made their way to the stage. The principal, Mr. Griffin, took the microphone "It's time to crown this years Homecoming King and Queen. If you could all quiet down please...". The crowd began to settle down a bit, gathering around to the stage. The privileged ones, the beautiful ones, the athletic ones all made their way to the front, while the rest of them either clung to the edges of the crowd in a last ditch effort to force their way into acceptance, or they sat at the tables around the walls.
"I, personally, am curious to see how this all turns out." Kiira giggled "What do you mean?" Devyn asked. "You really need to catch up on the locker room gossip Devyn." she joked. "You know who got king and queen? Don't you?". Devyn smirked in almost disgust as she said "Well... I know that Alex is king... but.. I think.. didn't Riyah Lawson get queen? What's the big deal with that?". Kiira scanned her eyes through the crowd till her eyes found Alex. "Remember.... it's school tradition that the king and queen share a dance after they're crowned.". Devyn's mouth shut in surprise, having forgotten to connect all of the dots that would surely lead to disaster. "Oh... oh god... that poor girl."
Riyah Lawson was one of those people. She didn't really have a group of friends, she just had friends. She was just as at home with the rich and beautiful crowd, as she was with the drama kids. She could hang out with the athletes, as well as the loners, the band kids, and the honor rollers. She did what she could to just be nice. She was also, one of Alex's many conquered quests. He had spent a lot of time and effort into making her fall for him. Abandoning his usual cocky nature, approaching her as a misunderstood jock that just needed a little help with his grades. She was smart enough not to fall for it straightaway, but he had been ruthlessly persistent, and extremely charming. Until she finally gave in. As soon as she had surrendered her body to him, he had dropped the act, and shown his true colors. Before the week had ended, he had moved on to his next mission and left her in a pool of self hatred that took months to drag herself out of. And now, they were really going to make her dance with him? It really is true then.. in all the realms, there is no darker hell than the one called high school.
The crowd grew respectfully quiet as Mr. Griffin continued "And ... this years homecoming king is..." he gave a small pause as he opened the envelope "Alex Shaygon". Alex smirked as he took to the stage, walking with as much confidence as a boy that owns the school could possibly manage. He smiled as they placed the crown on his head, walking out to the center of the dance floor. Mr. Griffin continued "And.. this years homecoming queen .... is ..... Ms. Riyah Lawson...". The crowd of students erupted in applause.. hoots and hollering, loud cheering and shouts of joy as she took to the stage, letting them place the crown on her head.
Riyah walked off the stage, taking to the center of the dance floor, obviously happy at the honor of being elected by her fellow students, but, to the trained eye, you could see her disgust for the boy that stood smirking, waiting with arms stretched out for the king and queen dance. She walked slowly towards him, coming withing touching distance. As he reached out his arms to take her for the dance, she busted out in laughter, and continued walking past him, shaking her head "I'd rather be set on fire than dance with you." she said, just loud enough for those standing close to hear. His face contorted into a twisted shape of embarrassment and anger as she walked past him, taking the hand of one of the boys from the drama club "Dance with yourself Alex... that's the only person you really care about anyway." she said as she began to dance with the other boy as the crowd began giggling around him.
