Chase laid in his bed, arm behind his head staring at the ceiling fan, spinning over his head, trying to let the nightmare fade from his memory. He knew that it wasn't real, knew that it didn't really happen, she hadn't said those words. Those were the words of his self doubt, finding their way into his dreams, but it didn't change the fact that he felt the sting of them as sharply as he felt the knife in his back. He slowly rubbed the area where he had dreamt he was stabbed, his body recalling the pain as the blade went in. He felt as though King Kong had used him as a toothpick throughout the night, feeling every blow that he had taken in the dream. It always caught him off guard, when he woke from his nightmares, that his body took in all of the pain he endured during them.
He grinned as Dixon jumped up on the bed, curling up beside his ribcage, purring as if he was the best friend he had ever known. "How's my little assassin today." he laughed softly as the cat rubbed his face against Chase's side. He softly scratched Dixon's ear, torn between enjoying the company and his annoyance at the many attempts the cat had made on his life. The cat stretched it's paws out, showing his claws against Chase's chest, as if in reminder that he could turn on him at any moment. He shook his head, softly pushing the cat away and moving on to his morning routine, getting himself ready for the day to come. This was going to be an important day, and he needed to erase the nightmare from his eyes and face before starting it. He needed to get his head on straight. He grabbed his phone punching in a quick text to Devyn "Hey... would you like a ride to school?". He checked his phone after his trip to the bathroom to see that she had replied with "I'd love that, when will you be here?" to which he quickly sent the answer '6:40'. He grabbed his things, settling his coffee cup in the console of the jeep, thinking to himself 'this is going to be a good day.'
........
Devyn sat in front of the mirror, attempting to tame the wild beast of her hair when she got the text alert. She grinned when she saw that it was from Chase, not even needing to read it to make her happy. What was going on with her? She had never let a boy get her so giddy before, but there was just something about him that she couldn't quite put her finger on. They had spent a lot of time this week getting to know each other, and he was nothing like she had imagined. She still didn't know exactly what to think about him. He liked her, she could tell that, but what she couldn't tell was what he was really thinking. She sighed a little, remembering the kiss on that first day, feeling the heat rising in her chest at the memory of it. Wow.. she had never been kissed like that before, not in a way that made the whole world disappear around you. Her only disappointment was that after that first day, he had not even tried to kiss her. Thinking back, she remembered that she had kissed him that day. He hadn't initiated it. Hadn't moved in at all until she had. She frowned a little at the thought. Maybe... maybe he just didn't want to kiss her? Maybe it hadn't been as good for him? Maybe he was just collecting her like Kiira and Natalie as one of his 'girls'. The thought crossed her mind, and made her wonder if that is really all she was going to be.
After the texts saying that he'd be there to pick her up, she quickly started getting herself ready. It was Friday today, and unfortunately, she always worked on Friday nights, and he rarely did. It surprised her, how much they had learned about each other in these last few days. How quickly they had become comfortable around each other. His awkward shyness starting to go away, revealing one of the most unique minds that she had ever encountered. Her normal closed hearted self opening up to his, surprised even her. She sighed again, looking into the mirror, seeing herself the way that she always had, desperately wishing that she could see through his eyes, because the way he made her feel when he told her what he saw, just couldn't be explained. At exactly 6:40, she heard a soft knock on the front door so she gathered her things, ready to give him a smart remark about being punctual, but what she saw, took all thoughts of that away.
