..........
As the jeep slid through the parking lot, his headlights illuminated the area with the dumpster, he saw Devyn, slapping Alex and the world disappeared. He left the jeep in gear, shutting off the ignition. He still had the top and doors off, and had been in such a rush that he wasn't wearing his seatbelt, so he just jumped out the opening and hit the ground running.
.........
The sound of the engine and the gravel being thrown tore Alex's attention from what he was about to say to Devyn. "Dammit Lenora..." he spat as he looked from Devyn to the jeep, seeing Chase leap from the driver's seat as the jeep kept rolling till it finally chugged to a stop. This wasn't supposed to happen, she didn't keep him long enough. He made a break for his green mustang, running across the short distance, hearing the running footsteps gaining ground. He reached the door and jumped in bringing the engine to life, barely able to lock the door before Chase grabbed the handle. He saw Chase reaching back as if he were going to punch through the window, saw the madness in his eyes as he dropped it into gear pulling away, seeing Chase spun as he tried to avoid being run over. He had to put as much distance as he could between them as quickly as he could. That little jeep was no match for his mustang, so as long as he was here, everything else could wait. He reached the exit of the parking lot, then jumped as he heard what sounded like a gunshot and the sound of his back window shattering.
.......
Chase made it to the mustang as he heard the engine roaring to life. He grabbed the door handle, finding that it was locked, pulling back to reach through the glass and yank Alex out so he could beat him to death. He felt the car jerk out of his hand, spinning him around a bit as he lost his balance. He ran after the car, knowing it was pointless, stopping to grab the largest rock he could find, picking it up and throwing it as hard as he could, wishing that he could find satisfaction as he saw the back window of the mustang shattering then seeing the taillights disappearing down the road. He was torn between the futile attempt of trying to catch him in his jeep, and making sure that Devyn was alright. He knew his little 4 cylinder was no match for the sportscar, and that he knew where to find Alex anyway... that time is going to come. He quickly made his way to the wall, finding Devyn shaking and trembling. She looked at him, seeing the fury in his eyes being replaced by the gentle concern. "W...What... How... How did you know to come?" "Are you alright Devyn?" he said as he cautiously reached out for her.
She stepped forward, still shaken up, wrapping her arms around him, resting her head against his shoulder as he gently cradled her against his body. "Y..yea... I am now... How did you know?". Chase growled softly "He sent me a message.. he wanted me to know he was here.. and that you were in trouble.. Did he.... did he hurt you?" he asked. "No Chase.. no... he just.. he just was being his usual self.. he .." "I'm going to kill him Devyn.". She looked up, feeling a mix of emotions that ranged from gratitude, to fear, to concern "No Chase... we just... we just need to stay away from him." "Dammit Devyn... this is what I've been trying to tell Kiira... some people just won't be avoided.. some people.. just won't stop unless you stop them.". She raised her head, looking into his eyes "Chase... I mean it.. please.. Nothing would make me smile like the thought of him bloody and beaten.. but.. You... you're just too important to me.. for something to happen to you.". That stopped him in his tracks. The anger and rage subsiding to be replace by something new, something foreign to him. He was important to her?
He softly brushed the loose strands of hair from her cheek over her ear, looking into her eyes. "For you... I'll try my best..". She smiled softly, leaning in to kiss him when the back door swung open. "HEY!" the snotty waitress shouted out "aren't you supposed to be bussing tables? Not out here making out with your boyfriend?" They both jumped a little at the interruption, Devyn casting a nasty glare at the waitress "I'm coming, I'll be there in just a minute." "You better be... these tables aren't going to clean themselves." "I said I'm coming.". With that, the waitress went back inside, leaving the two alone. She reached up, placing a hand on his cheek, sighing "I... I have to go.. will you please ... go home... and I'll call you when I get home tonight.". "But, he might wait for you.. he might be here when you get off.. I can't just leave you here knowing that.". She giggled a little bit "Nana will be here, and she takes me home.. She would chop him up and put him in the freezer.. I'll be safe hun.". He sighed, feeling her hand on his skin, seeing her pleading eyes "Alright Dev... I'll go home.. I'll wait for you to call me.. I'll behave myself.. I promise.". She smiled, leaning in, softly kissing him, then spoke softlt "Dev? .... You're perfect.. you know that?" he grinned "No.. I'm alright.. you're the perfect one." "Hey.. guess what?" he looked at her curiously "hmmm... what?" "Shut up.." she giggled "go home baby.". He smiled, nodding to her, watching as she went back inside, not leaving till he was sure that she was safely inside the building.
