Chapter 24 | Not a Bother

Momo's Pov.

  Momo was sitting next to Todoroki and waiting for him to melt more ice. She had made a ramp that almost resembled a slide, but not quite. Its purpose was to catch water. Alternatively of sitting there staying unproductive, they were contributing to the group. 

  When he melted the ice, all the water flowed into a clear container. Some of the water spilled over the sides. She decided not to worry too much. Because of Todoroki switching from fire and ice, he wasn't getting too warm or cold and that meant nearly unlimited water if he didn't run out of stamina, which was most likely not going to occur promptly.

  After a long while, she was getting tired of creating the containers. Since they were plastic, they didn't take up too much energy. However, she created a lot of them and the ramp.

  "Todoroki, could we take a break for a little while?" she questioned after the next container was filled.

  He nodded in agreement and then walked away. 

  She was already crouching on the ground to collect the water but moved so she didn't sit in the mud. Then Momo sat against the ground. Her legs were aching from squatting so long and her energy was drained from creating containers.

  Momo glanced to the sky. To her surprise, the sun was already sinking below the trees.

  "I think we better just leave this until tomorrow," Todoroki suggested. When did he walk over?

  "Yeah," she agreed.

  He extended a hand for her and helped her up to her feet.

 After Momo stood up, he let go of her hand immediately, almost as if her touch was poisonous. Were her hands cold? Well, he helped her up with his right hand, so she shouldn't be too freezing either way.

  Was she only troubling him? Did he actually hate that she was always trying to talk to him? Perhaps this was the case... She didn't want it to be, but Todoroki was normally blunt, so all she had to do was ask. 

  "Todoroki, am I a bother?" she questioned, gazing away from him gloomily. She awaited his direct response.

  "No," he replied. But he didn't say anything else. At least she wasn't bothering him!

  Momo felt her heart start to beat faster. She didn't want it to though... She just wanted him to be her friend...

  They walked back to the campsite in uncomfortable silence. Well, at least for her. She was sure that Todoroki saw this as normal.

  After eating her fish, she left to go back to her tent, exhausted. 

  Momo left the lantern outside because Todoroki didn't come back to the tent left and she knew that he would bring the lantern in whenever he came back.

  She went to her side and started falling victim to unconsciousness immediately. She was exhausted from gathering water all day... A dreamless sleep consumed her, but she was okay with that... All she wanted to do was rest...

Todoroki's Pov.

  She was in the middle of the tent. Of course she was used to having a big bed, but she didn't roll around in her sleep. At least, from what he gathered. 

  Todoroki tried to slip to the side of the tent but decided to move her instead. He would have to touch her though... Without her consent... He didn't want to wake her up though, especially when she seemed so peaceful. But maybe he could just push her gently. 

  But what if she awoke when he was trying to move her? Would she get the wrong idea? Since when was he getting so indecisive? Was he spending that much time with Yaoyorozu?

  'Just move her.'

  She was on her side, so he rolled her over so that she was on her back instead, and then pushed her to the side slightly. 

  Yaoyorozu rolled over a little bit after that and he was able to lay down. 

  Why was his heart beating like this? Why was his face burning so much? Did he wake her up? Or was she just in the middle of a dream?

  When did he start asking himself so many questions?  

  He felt petals rush up his throat, but her voice didn't let him leave the tent.

  "Apologies, Todoroki..." Yaoyorozu spoke in a groggy voice. 

  He didn't answer. Instead, he went outside the tent to cough out the petals and brought in the lantern to blow out the light.

  The next morning Todoroki felt something warm touching him... It wasn't next to him... Wait, it was-

  He opened his eyes promptly to see Yaoyorozu's face inches from his.

  Yaoyorozu seemed to be asleep though, so he wasn't sure what to do. If he sat up it would wake her up and if he tried to move her he would have to explain if she woke up.  If he called her name until she woke up, she would get embarrassed and he would feel bad. If she woke up as she is she might scream.

  Not only that, petals were trying to rush up his throat, and if he didn't move he might spew them all over her. Then it would not only reveal that he has Hanahaki, but it would be unsanitary and she might freak out. 

  "Yaoyorozu," he said her name quickly. At least if she scrambled off of him he could get off quickly. 

  She started to stir but didn't fully wake up.

  "Yaoyorozu," Todoroki spoke her name slightly louder. 

  When she didn't wake up again, he had to speak her name again.

  "Yaoyorozu," he was starting to get nervous as the petals were getting hard to swallow so they staying in his throat.

  "Huh?" her voice was dazed. She pushed herself up a little bit and blinked her eyes open. Then once she realized the situation, her eyes widened and she jumped off him quickly, "I'm so sorry Todoroki! Please forgive me!"

  Todoroki couldn't' answer. Instead, he exited the tent and it felt like he was vomiting the petals now. It was too close. He couldn't let her see him like this.

If you want to read it, there are twenty chapters on it and I'm going to write an epilogue soon. The title is still under debate and I need to decide what to do for the epilogue. That's all for now!
