Knowing that Thomas would leave the pub any second as well, I quickly made my way down the cobblestones.
I certainly needed to work on my background story before facing him again.
With my fast pace, the usually ten minutes long walk, only took me a few minutes and I reached the house completely out of breath.
Even though I was probably panicking about nothing, and the Shelby already forgot about my act, I couldn't stop turning around at every corner, looking over my shoulder like a paranoid lunatic.
As soon as I was inside I slam shut the door and leaned against it. Closing my eyes trying to calm my breath, I didn't notice the door right in front of me opening.
"We're you chased by the devil himself or why do you slam that poor ol' door shut like you're trying to keep him out?"
The strong voice of the women before me, startled me so much, I almost screamed. Being completely overwhelmed I wasn't able to bring out more that a stuttered 'sorry'.
"Right, I assume you are Annabelle Lancom?"
The elderly women in the doorway, said now, more like a statement, than a question, still I nodded.
"Come in, then girl." She said now with a much nicer tone in her voice, while turning around disappearing inside of her flat.
"And take your dirty shoes off, I don't want that mud, inside me house!" She shouted from what I assumed to be the kitchen.
Not quite being able to get out an actual sentence just yet, I didn't say or do anything. She couldn't see me nodding anyways.
I quickly slipped out of my shoes and coat and then went into the kitchen.
"Sit down. I have a few rules here in this house."
She said and pointed to one of the chairs around the kitchen table, while she was pouring tea in to two cups.
As soon as she sat down with me, she leaned back and took a sip out of her tea, not taking her eyes off of me for just a second. Increasingly getting more uncomfortable I shifted in my chair and picked up my cup of tea, to warm my hands. It was earl grey.
