"He'll do"

As soon as those words left the woman's mouth, the men around John started to cheer and congratulate him.

To be honest, I forgot who the woman was and what exactly her position was, but when we locked eyes she sent me a smile.
I was standing a few meters behind the group, leaning against one of the caravans, just watching.

Thomas Shelby was the first one of them to spot me and for a second it seemed like his proud smile faltered.

We've never been close and yet, the second our eyes met, I felt that he was reading my emotions as if they were written across my forehead.
Maybe it was just him being incredibly smart and being able to look right through the people around him, or maybe I just carried my heart on my sleeve and everybody apart from that one person noticed.

As soon as he broke eye contact he got a hold of his men and said something to John, as to which he spun around and started running towards me.
Seeing the bright smile on his face immediately overthrew all my negative emotions.

However, he didn't slow down and I started thinking about how I could dodge him; when his hands closed around my waist and he spun me around like I weighed nothing.

A joyful laugh escaped my throat as I put my hands on his shoulders and tried to enjoy the moment as long as possible.
When John put my feet back on the ground none of us said anything and we stayed in that very position for another moment.

"Hello there, Mr Groom."

I hoped that the smile on my lips reached my eyes, before he'd notice anything.

"God, I'm so nervous. What if she's really old? Or maybe she doesn't have any teeth? Belle what if I can't stand her, I don't want to have one of those marriages in which they both can't stand each other and-"

"God, John!"

At some point, I just had to interrupt his insufferable monologue.
As much as I would like to tell him to blow the whole thing off and instead run away with me, I simply couldn't.

The pure thought of choosing my happiness over his brought me almost physical pain.
Not to mention the realisation which just hit me square in the face.
