The doorbell was what stopped her from going on with her speech and soon a young blond woman entered the back area of the shop.
Damn she was beautiful, probably in her early 20s, same as me.
"Oh Maddie, good timing, Annabelle, this is my niece, your coworker Madeline."
Jeanne said while pointing to the girl infront of me.
As polite as I was I reached my hand out for her to shake."Hello, please call be Anne or Belle, everybody does."
I introduced myself again, as she grabbed my hand with a smile.
"I am Maddie, it's nice to meet you, finally a helping hand here in the shop."
Her voice was bright and soft, and you could tell that she was probably a singer just by how smoothly the words left her lips.
If I wasn't as confident as I am, she would definitely make me feel utterly insecure.
"I just came to pick up my new dress aunt Jeanne."
Maddie was now talking to my new boss.
"Oh that's right, I have it right here, somewhere, one moment."
Jeanne jumped up and disappeared in-between the fabrics.
"Yea she's always a bit jazzed, I guess."
Maddie laughed at here aunts sudden mood changes.
"She reminds me of my late grandmother, a lovely lady."
Still waiting for aunt Jeanne, Maddie and I decided to get to know each other and sat down onto the purple couch in the corner of the room.
"So Belle, what brings you to Small Heath?"
Maddie asked.
Oh well, I guess I should have thought about a cover story beforehand."Oh uhm, I am originally from Oxford but due to some family business I decided to leave the city and move a bit further north."
I stumbled over my words.
Growing up with strict parents, I've always been an excellent liar, but in this very moment I was just begging for her to believe my quick excuse of an answer.
