Back at the air temple, Aang finally woke up. It was about three and a half hours after the sun had risen. Seeing that Katara wasn't there made him think that she had already gotten up and decided to let Aang sleep in for a change.
Not worrying too much about it he laid back down for a few more minutes. He eventually got up because in the back of his mind something didn't seem right.
He got up like it was any usual day and got ready.
He started to look around the temple for her. There was no sign of her anywhere. He searched inside and out. There was no Katara anywhere. He started to panic. He felt horrible. The love of his life could've been dead for all he knew and he didn't even get to ask her the big question.
Aang thought to himself, 'Okay, calm down. Where did she say she was going last night?'
In that moment, he knew where. The rock path that led to one of the meditating areas, the one that had a few statues of the greatest monks.
Immediately, he got up and ran to where he thought she would have been.Although the rock path was wide enough to fit a platypus-bear, it still had a cliff on the other side of the path. It was safe for any air bender that came across the path because if they would, for whatever reason, fall, they would be okay. But if Katara were to have fallen, he could only hope that she was okay.
He remembered telling her to be careful, and that if there were any signs of trouble to come back immediately. But he also remembered how tired he was. 'What if she needed me? Why did I let her go by herself? I'm so stupid!' He thought to himself.
He arrived to the place that he had remember. Sure enough, there were signs of the fight.
He then saw the scroll that Bingwen left. The scroll said,
"Avatar,
I'm sure by now you have noticed that your lovely girl friend is gone. I just want to know that we are taking very good care of her, for now. You haven't heard of our little group yet, have you? Well, let me just say that we are Ozai supporters. We need a little favor from you. We want you to give the Firelord his bending back, & help him reclaim his throne. Only then will you see your friend again. I'd suggest you hurry, we wouldn't want something to happen to your little lady friend.

P.S. Meet us at the old palace in the forest 21 miles away from the temple. "Aang was so conflicted. He didn't know whether he should be mad, sad, worried, or what. But he had his mind dead set on finding Katara. He didn't even think twice about missing the wedding. He wrote a note to Sokka explaining what happened and apologize for not being able to attend.
He tied the note to Appa's horn and sent him off to the South Pole hoping he would get there soon.
Aang through his bag over his shoulder and grabbed his glider and took off to the old castle like place deep within the forest.
