The next morning Aang and I woke up safe inside of our house.
"Guess they didn't come back," Aang chuckled.
I smiled but I honestly had a horrible feeling about the entire situation.
"Why did they want you?" I said while look out the kitchen window.
"Uh.. Well, I'm not exactly sure just yet. But it'll be okay, Katara. I promise"
Hearing him say that made me feel a little bit better, but I still was unsure about what was exactly going on. The question of why would they want Aang kept going through my mind. I needed to calm down and just not think about it; so I decided to prepare a nice breakfast. Aang went to his room to change into a new robe. While he was in there I set out a lovely bowl of blueberries and raspberries along with a small dish of oatmeal. I put the finishing touches on the table right before he came out. I sat down on my side of the table and ate some yogurt as he seemed surprised by the breakfast I prepared for him.
"Wow! It looks delicious. Thank you, Katara!"
"Your welcome, sweetie. You know after you finish eating, you need to start packing." I said without realizing what I had called him.
"Sweetie?" He smirked, "Of course.. What exactly am I packing for again?"
"Aang! Did you forget about the wedding? We have to fly to the South Pole for Sokka and Suki's wedding.."
"I was just kidding. That was delicious; I'm going to go pack now... Sweetie."
Aang then went back to his room and started packing. And I was glad because I didn't want him to see me blush.
About 20 minutes later, I was done cleaning up the kitchen. I went to my room to finish gathering my stuff for the trip. I was beyond excited to go back to the South Pole. I was happy about seeing Sokka and GranGran but I mainly wanted to see what all Master Paku and the waterbenders had done to it. I kept pondering about what may have changed.
"Katara! Can you come here a minute?!"
I quickly snapped out of my thoughts and rushed to Aang's room.
"What's wrong, Aang?"
"Don't you mean sweetie?" He teased. "But since your here... I need your help picking out what I should wear to the wedding?"
Aang held up 3 different fancy outfits. One was a suit of the airbender's colors and insignia. The other was a black and white suit. And the last one was the robe he wore the day after he beat Firelord Ozai.
"That one." I said pointing to the black and white one.
Then I walked to his closet and picked out a tie and handed to him. Before I could help him pack anything else he immediately shoved me out of his room, not even saying thanks.
That made me quite curious and somewhat frustrated. But I didn't stop to dwell on it and consider the possibilities. Instead, I finished packing and loaded my stuff on Appa.
Aang was watching me from his window. He was smiling ear to ear. I didn't let him see me look at him. I acted as if he wasn't there.
5 minutes and I was done loading my stuff on Appa. That's when Aang came out with 4 small bags. He airbended himself onto the bison, setting his bags down, then gracefully hoping off.
"I'm going to get some food and blankets and then I'll be ready to go."
"Okay Aang. But hurry. We need to leave soon."
Aang rushed inside then came out with the stuff he had went in after. He closed the door and then we were ready to go.
"You know we can't fly all the way to the South Pole in just one day.." I started to say.
"What are you saying Katara?"
"We're going to have to make a stop when night comes."
"Where?!"
"Oh, just at the Southern Air Temple."
Aang started smiling. He didn't say another word. I got into Appa's saddle and then we started flying.
Soon enough we arrived at the Southern Air Temple. The sun had just started to set. Aang seemed sorta happy to be back to his home. He grabbed the blankets and lead me to his room. It was slightly dusty but not messy. I started walking around the temple. Exploring the things that I didn't get to the last time we were there. I had been wondering alone around the temple for about 35 minutes. It had gotten pretty dark, so I was starting to head back to where Aang said we were sleeping.
I suddenly heard a voice behind me. I turned around hoping to see Aang. It wasn't Aang. It was the firebender who we had fought the other night.
" I bet you were expecting someone else."
I yelled for Aang but there was no response. I had no choice but to fight. I bent the water out of the plants nearby and got into fighting stance.
"I can handle a wimp like you!" I said even though I was terrified.
The next thing I knew there fireballs hurling towards me; which I dodged. Then through some ice slates at him. Only one of them made contact but left a deep, bloody mark. He seen that it had drawn blood and became irate. He made fire blasts that I couldn't dodge. I had to use waterbending to protect myself. He lead me to the edge of the mountain.
"Would you like to come with me and live or do you want to fall to your death?" He demanded with a dreadful look in his eye.
"I would rather die."
And in that moment I fell of the side of the mountain only to land 2 feet down on a platform of rock that the earthbender had bent. He then made the platform into a box. Everything was suddenly blurry.
