ISABEL STARED AT THE DOOR, CRADLING THE INJURED BIRD ON HER LAP AS SHE GENTLY STROKED IT.
she didn't know why, but she was sort of expecting her big brother to march through those doors and drag her back to their house and give her an earful. probably force her to eat raw vegetables as punishment for an entire week. but even as the clock struck 8 pm, he never came.
isabel sighed. "you miss him?" isabel nearly jumped in surprise when a teacup was placed in the table in front of her. farlan stared at her worriedly when he noticed her disheartened expression. she looked down and stared at her reflection in the tea. she couldn't help the feeling of guilt that was bubbling up in her chest.
her brother was only trying to protect her in his own, twisted, little way. he still tried to take care of her despite everything. they had plenty of arguments as isabel grew up, but she always gave in to her big brother. he gave her everything she wanted, but...
i'm such a selfless prick. isabel scowled. noticing the sudden shift in her mood, farlan smiled half-heartedly and patted her head. "give it some time, if what you said about your big brother is true, then he'll come back for you." he chuckled, trying to cheer up the girl.
isabel tried to give him a smile but to no avail. "thanks, farlan, but knowing my big brother, he probably won't come back for me..." farlan sighed, and then he harshly patted her head earning him a pained whine from the girl. "hey, cheer up. don't lose hope, okay? you're siblings! you fight, but one way or another, you'll make up." isabel sighed.
"there's no use crying over it." farlan frowned. nothing he said could cheer her up. so, he decided to use his last resort. "i think i might know a way to cheer you up."
this bright idea of farlan's, was to teach the girl how to use odm gear. farlan managed to convince levi to take pity on the girl.
months passed and isabel managed to master the odm gear. together with levi and farlan, they helped street rats and poor people living in the slums by stealing goods from merchants and distributing them amongst the poor. it was a typical robin hood situation, and just like what farlan said, isabel managed to cheer up.
