It happened again. It's been happening for the past week. I've been having nightmares. I never really understood them but it was all linked to one thing. I was always chased by a dark shadow. I couldn't tell what or who it is. But it had a feminine voice. It would always whisper something in my ear. I couldn't tell what it was saying but it always drained my energy. I would feel chills going down my spine. An indication that this thing was not very friendly. I woke up drenched in sweat. My hair was stuck on my forehead. I looked at the time. 04:30. Only thirty minutes left till the alarm goes off. I still don't understand why I had to wake up this early on a Saturday. My mom had to sign me up to a dumb summer camp. A SUMMER CAMP! Unbelievable. I could be sleeping till midday. I could be reading books I never had time to read. I could be relaxing, knowing that I don't have to do any school work for the next three months. I sighed, getting out of bed. I might as well get ready. I made the bed and took a shower. I looked out the windows to see the weather. Looks like it was going to be cold. Odd weather for Summer. I wore a black T-shirt, an aviator jacket, black jeans and combat boots. I packed my remaining stuff in my bags and took them downstairs
I looked at the time. 07:30. Still early. I heard my mom humming in the kitchen. Probably making breakfast. I walked into the kitchen and saw a stack of pancakes on the table. Some orange juice and bacon. Mom likes going over the top. I tip-toed trying to steal a pancake. As my hand reached to take one, I felt a slap on my hand. "Ooww!". I looked to see where the slap came from. Obviously, it had to be Phoebe, my little sister. That little devil. Don't get me wrong. I love the little dweeb. But she's a demon wearing angel wings. "What the ding-dong do you think you're doing touching the pancakes with your filthy fingers" she yelled. "Mom is almost done anyway. I'm in a rush", I retorted. In actual fact, I wasn't in a rush. I didn't want to go. "Now Blaire, I think you can for a few more minutes. Like you said, I'm almost done", Mom said. I sat down rolling my eyes. I looked at Phoebe. She had that annoying victory smirk on her face. When Mom was done, I took a couple of pancakes and stuffed them in my mouth. Mom made the best pancakes. "So, Blaire, who's taking you to Golden Arrow Summer Camp", Mom asked with a smile on her face. I washed down the pancakes with some juice. "Oh. Uhmm... I was thinking that my dad could take me". "Oh", was all Mom could say. Mom and Dad got a divorce. No one knows why they did. But my grandparents, Mom's parents, supported her since they never liked Dad. "Crazy man, that one. I don't trust him with my grandchildren", Gran would use to say. Mom won custody over us. I miss Dad a lot. Phoebe, not so much. But I don't blame her. She was only one when our parents got divorced. I was ten. It's been six years since they've sat down and had a decent talk. I always asked Mom why they got divorced but she would just brush the question off. Mom looked at the time. 08:01 "Hurry up, Blaire. It's almost time for you to leave".
