A Unforgettable Trip: Chapter 18: Leaving New York

You just sat their in Emily's Ford truck thinking about if you should go over their & see what's wrong with Adam but you knew that would be a bad idea but you still wanted to make sure he was ok before you left.
"Harmony who are you looking at?" Emily asks as she sits right besides in the passenger seat while Ashley sleeps in her car seat in the back.
"Look for yourself."

You say as you move your head to the side so Emily can see Adam on his front porch.
"What's wrong with him?" Emily asks. "I don't know but I wanna go make sure he's alright before we go back to San Fransisco." You say. "Harmony do whatever you need to do just don't get yourself involved with Joanne." Emily says. "Yeah I know. Watch over Ashley while I'm gone I'll be back in a couple minutes."
You say as Emily nods as you get out of the truck & walk over to Adam.

"Adam? Everything alright?" You ask as Adam looks up at you. "Didn't leave yet huh." Adam says. "No but we're about to. You wanna tell me what's going on I saw you out the car window with your head down in between your knees. You can talk about it." You say. "I'm just not ready for you to leave. Now I know that you have to because of Joanne but if you could just stay here at your house & come over when Joanne is gone that would work with me. So you wanna do that?"
Adam says as he reaches his hand out.

This was a hard decision. Even though you badly want to take Adam's hand & do this whole new thing with him you knew getting home was better than staying with Adam in Brooklyn for your whole life. Your family is missing you & you are missing them so it's better if you just walk away, get in the truck, & drive home.

"Adam I'm sorry but I can't do this anymore... My family misses me & I miss them so it's better if I go back home than live with you for the rest of my life."
You say as Adam puts his head down & sighs & then looks back at you.
"Look Harmony I'm not gonna stop you from going back home but just realize if you go back home you better always have your phone on you because I am gonna always try to call or text you when I can." Adam says as you chuckle & Adam joins in. "Yeah I got it. I'll still love you even though were far away. I'll be sure to always have my phone on. Bye Adam."

You say as Adam waves goodbye as you walk back to the truck to head back to San Francisco with Emily, yourself, & Ashley.

On the road you look over your shoulder to see Emily already fell asleep along with Ashley. It was gonna be a long car ride & them sleeping helps the time go by in their heads quicker.

While you drove the car you heard your phone ring in your bag. You pulled it out & saw that Adam was calling you.
You first thought you shouldn't answer it but you couldn't help yourself so you answered his call.

"Hi Harmony I know your driving right now but I found your ring & your car still at your house did you forget about them or something?" Adam says. "No Adam I didn't forget that I left them their because I wanted them to stay their." You say. "Why?" Adam says. "It's complicated... I'll call you back when we stop at a gas station or a hotel. Bye." You say. "Bye talk with you later."
Adam says as you hang up & continue to drive.

Once you stop at a nearby gas station Emily wakes up & grabs your phone trying to figure out what time it is.

7:30PM.

Emily was surprised but of course she was she just slept a whole bunch in the car.
Once you get back in the car after filling up the tank you chat with Emily while she's still awake.

"Hey Emily I'm glad your up." You say. "Ok. How much longer until we stop at a hotel?" Emily asks. "I don't know whenever I see one. Did Ashley wake up yet?" You ask as Emily looks behind her & then looks back at you shaking her head no.
"Nope she's been asleep most of the day." Emily says. "Man when the doctors said babies need a lot of sleep they weren't kidding it's pretty much like a puppy because puppies always sleep." You say. "Yeah I used to have puppy & all she would do is sleep." Emily says. "Wait you had a dog? What was her name & what type of dog was she?" You ask. "She was a golden retriever puppy named Lily & we lost her in...."

Emily pauses as she puts her head down & begins to cry.
"Oh I'm so sorry Emily." You say. "Well we should probably get back on the road. We still have a long ways to go."

You say as Emily puts her head up whipping away her tears & nodding.

As you drive for another hour Emily brings up a question you knew she would ask eventually.
"Hey Harmony?" Emily says. "Yeah?" You say. "Why didn't we take a plane back home. That would've been quicker." Emily says as you sigh. "Yeah it would've but I didn't want to leave your car in Brooklyn. You get it?" You ask. "A little. But yeah."
Emily says as you hear moaning behind you.
"Someone's waking up. Here pull over I'm gonna move to the back so I can comfort Ashley."
Emily says as you pull over & let Emily change seats & sit in the back of her own truck.

"Is she awake?" You ask as Emily puts her seatbelt on. "Yeah she is. Sorry this seatbelt is really being a pain with me right now." Emily says as you chuckle. "Well I'll give you a minute to get situated. Let me know when your ready for me to get back on the road." You say.

3 minutes later Emily finally gets all situated & gives you the green light to get back on the road & continue to drive to the nearest hotel.
It was about 9:00PM by the time you arrived at a hotel but you, Emily & Ashley were glad to go in somewhere, shake their legs & get some rest before going back out on the road in the morning.
