"Viv, wake up. We're here."

"Five more minutes," i mumbled incoherently, snuggling deeper into the plush leather seat of Luca's car. I heard his throaty laugh at the same time that I felt his hand on my shoulder, nudging me incessantly. I groaned and stretched before I finally opened my eyes. The little nap I took didn't make the blur of the alcohol go away completely, but it did make it subside to a hazy background. To my surprise, when I looked out the window i didn't see mine and Kate's apartment building, but the Forrest's mansion of a house instead. Off to the side was Jason's sleek car, parked diagonally like he had parked it mid-turn, not bothering to put it in it's designated place.

Jason...

The image of him holding my face and telling me he loves me interrupted my train of thoughts, causing me to suddenly get a pounding headache. Why did Luca bring me here? Surely Jason must have told him what had happened.

"Luca, what are we doing here?" I asked, the panic evident in my groggy voice, "please, just take me home." There was no way I was having another confrontation with Jason, especially not while I was half drunk.

"Relax, i just brought you here because you're obviously in no condition to be going back to Kate's right now."

I sighed. He was right. If Kate saw the state I was in right now she'd flip out, probably demolishing Steve's reproductive organs while she was at it.

"Thanks Luca, you really didn't have to take care of me," I managed to give him a small smile through my indignation and embarrassment.

"Hey, no problem at all kid, you Were going to be my sister in law after all," he said, smiling softly back at me. I saw the way he almost unnoticeably winced when he said that, and I couldn't help the sympathy that flooded me, mixing in with all the alcohol I'd consumed.

"Stop that," he said sternly, looking me dead in the eyes. Mine widened in return.

"Stop what?" I asked.

"That," he replied, pointing at my face, "That look you always give me. I'm fine, Viv, you don't have to feel bad for me."

Why did my face have to be so expressive?

"I don't feel bad for you!" I exclaimed, "well, I mean I do but not in a bad way, it's not like I pity you, it's more of a-"

"Yep, got it," he cut me off, an amused look on his face, probably because of my little ramble. "Come on, let's get inside."

Forcing my cheeks to go back to their normal shade after the embarrassment that my big mouth put me through, I got out of the car and followed Luca silently to the front door. With every step I took closer to the little patio, my heart rate went faster and faster. By the time we got to the door, it took everything in me not to run back and hide under the car.

Luca unlocked the door in one quick twist of his hand and pushed it open.

"After you," he ushered me in. With a deep breath, I forced my right foot in, followed by my left foot. The house looked the exact same way it did when I had come over all that time ago, when Jason had first asked me out on a date. I forced myself to stop thinking about that. Instead, I focused on walking steadily in my heels, which at this point were making meatloaf of my feet. Luca must have noticed my awkward attempt at walking properly since he stopped midway into the kitchen and pointed down at my shoes.

"you know you could take these off if you want to. You look like someone's just chopped your toes off."

"Trust me, that's not too far off from the truth," I replied, which got him to laugh. I wanted to muffle up his loud laughter just in case Jason hears it and comes to down to see what was going on.
