BUZZ! BUZZ!

A loud groan escaped my lips as I blindly reached out and grabbed my phone before it vibrated its way off the nightstand. Without bothering to check who had texted me so early, I shoved the little black device under the pillow and pulled the cover further up over my head. Just as I was about to drift back to serenity, a muffled buzz sounded from under the pillow.

“Oh for God’s sake,” I grumbled, half sitting up so I could kill whoever it was that was disturbing me. That thought changed completely as I saw Jason’s name flash up on my screen. There were two texts waiting to be read.

The first one, which was exactly 8 minutes ago, read:

Good morning sunshine

Coming around to pick you up in 15. Be ready.

The second one, which dated a little over a minute ago, made my heart beat way too fast for me health:

I’m guessing you’re still asleep. Still coming around... With a bottle of icy water ;)

Using my basic calculation skills, I realized that I only had around 6 minutes to get out of my bed, take a shower, get dressed, and manage to look awake before Jason got here. In lightning speed, I was out of bed and in the shower. Not bothering to wait for the heater to do its magic, I shampooed and conditioned my hair thoroughly, then jumped out of the shower and wrapped myself in a pink towel.

I walked out into the hallway connecting mine and Kate’s rooms to the living room and the kitchen, the smell of burnt toast and the sound of Kate’s tuneless humming drifted to me immediately.

“Viv? You up?” Kate yelled from the kitchen. Still in my towel, I padded my way to the kitchen, leaving a trail of water droplets behind me.

“Morning,” I said cheerfully, giving my sister a big hug. She pushed me away immediately, drying the water mark that my hair had left on her shirt. Before I could laugh about her reaction, I heard the doorbell ring.

“Ohh, I wonder who it is,” Kate chirped, the water mark on her shirt already forgotten.

“No Kate don’t answer that!” I shouted, trying to beat her to the door. I did not, however, consider how slippery my wet feet were on the waxed floor, making me slide right to the door my arms flailing uncontrollably. Thankfully, a hard surface saved me from face planting onto the hard floor. Nope, the hard surface wasn’t a chair, or a wall, or any other inanimate object Kate had lying around the apartment.

It was Jason’s chest.

My who body turned crimson as I realized that:

a)      I just soaked him completely.

b)      I slammed right into him, making him stumble back and hold onto me for support.

c)       I was still in my towel.

A beat of silence passed, but did not last as Kate’s laughter pierced the tense atmosphere. I could feel Jason’s chest vibrating with laughter as well. I, on the other hand, was frozen with shock and utter embarrassment.

“Well, this beats the whole soaking you with a bottle of water thing,” I heard Jason say between laughs. Feeling my legs regain their functions, I quickly detached myself from his chest, staring at his wet shirt in both horror and embarrassment.

“Oh my God,” I groaned, hiding my face with one hand while holding the towel firmly in its place with the other. This cannot be happening.

“That was just…wow!” Kate said, still laughing.
