Recap:

I shoved my phone back into my back pocket and pushed the door to the coffee shop open. Just as I had suspected. Jason’s head was visible in the far end of the coffee shop. His hair looked messier than usual and for once, he wasn’t scribbling in his notebook. Instead, he was staring off into space.

The jingle of the overhead bells caused his head to snap up, our eyes locking. Immediately, he stiffened in his seat. Before he could move, I made my way towards him, silently hoping that my tongue wouldn’t betray me at the last second.

“We need to talk.”

…………………………………………………………....................................

He stared at me for what seemed like forever. I was starting to think he hadn’t heard what I said but then his lips moved.

“Let’s go,” without another word, he got up and walked towards the door.

What is up with people dragging me along with them today?

I sighed and followed him out the door. I had to jog to catch up to him.

“Can you just stop walking for a second?” I asked, frantically trying to keep up with him. He was walking incredibly fast, and the fact that he was almost 6 feet tall didn’t help my case whatsoever.

He ignored me and kept walking until we got to the beach. He finally stopped at a big rock, sitting down on it and facing me.

“Really?” I asked raising my eyebrows and folding my arms over my panting chest, “We couldn’t have just talked at the coffee shop?”

“Nope,” he said easily, “I like it here better.”

I rolled my eyes and took a seat next to him on the rock.

“I’m sorry,” I said after a few seconds of silence, avoiding his stare.

“For what?” He asked. I risked a glance at him and saw him frown in confusion.

“I mean, we kind of got off on the wrong foot,” I explained, playing with the edge of my shirt. Anything just to avoid staring into his eyes. I really don’t want to lose ability to speak right now.

It was strange, how his eyes had that effect on me. It wasn’t because of their gorgeous emerald shade; after all, Luca’s eyes were almost the exact same color. It was the way he stared into my eyes. It was like somehow, he was trying to read me; to memorize every single one of my features.

“I’m sorry about that,” now it was his turn to feel awkward, “I really didn’t mean to creep you out,”

He paused for a second, then got up and walked away.

What the hell?

After a few steps, he paused then turned around and started walking towards me again.

“Hey, I’m Jason. You’re really pretty and I would love to draw you sometime,” he said formally, extending his right arm out for a handshake. I burst out laughing at his poor attempt at starting over but shook his hand anyway.

“I think you should go back to silently staring at me,” I said after my laughter had subsided to a silent giggle. He chuckled lightly and sat down on the sand in front of me.

“So, Viviana,” he said, drawing patterns in the sand, “what’s your story?”

“My story?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.

“Yeah, you sort of just appeared out of nowhere,” he said.

“I moved here with my sister a week ago,” I explained.
