“Staying home again?” Kate asked, giving me a sympathetic look.
“Yep,” I replied, flipping through one of her fashion magazines.
It’s been two days since that bizarre conversation with Jason on the beach. Since then, I’ve been staying at home. It’s not that I’m ‘in shock’ or anything; I mean I was, but that wore off after the first day. The truth is I’m terrified of seeing him. After all, I only know two places in this town: the beach and the coffee shop. Odds are I’d probably bump into him at either of them.
And I really don’t want that to happen.
“Alrighty then, have fun,” Kate blew me a kiss and headed out the door.
I sighed and got up, going into my room. The pile of clothes on my bed and in my half opened suitcase glared at me. I glared back.
Ugh.
I guess I have nothing better to do than to unpack.
After hanging the last of my clothes, watching television, and making myself a delicious PB&J sandwich, I started to feel really bored. It was 5 pm already and Kate still wasn’t back from her photography session. Whoever that mystery company is, they’re really demanding.
I weighed my options thoroughly. It was too late to go to the beach. All that was left was the coffee shop.
I mean really, what are the odds of him and me going there at the exact same time?
I put on a pair of orange shorts and a white tank top and went on my way to the Beanioz, making sure to text Kate my exact location so she wouldn’t have another heart attack. The walk took around twenty minutes, and by the time I got there humidity had taken its toll on my hair. I tied it up in a high pony tail before walking into the cool atmosphere of the shop.
The second I stepped in, I discreetly looked around, praying not to see that head of shaggy brown hair or those piercing green eyes. I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding when I realized he wasn’t here.
“Hello there, how may I help you?” greeted me a short Asian woman with a sweet smile.
“Can I have an iced latte please? And easy on the ice,” I said after looking over the menu.
“Sore throat?” I heard a voice from behind me say. I turned around to see Steve looking at me with a big smile on his face. Before I could say anything, he gathered me up in a big bear hug, almost lifting me off the ground.
These bear hugs are gonna be the death of me.
“What’s up little sis?” he asked, messing up my ponytail with his big hands.
“I got bored so I thought I’d come here and,” I hesitated. Why did I come here? “Ponder.” I finished ever so cleverly. His loud laugh boomed in the small shop as he caught on my desperation to find something to do.
“Come on, bring your coffee and let’s go,” he said, handing me a straw and some tissue papers for my drink.
“Where to?” I ask confused, grabbing my coffee and hurrying up to him.
Man his strides were long.
“Someplace awesome,” he said with a smirk.
“And who said I trust you?” I asked, raising my eyebrow.
“Because I’m your sister’s best friend,” he explained then continued, “And anyway if you refuse to come with me I can simply carry you away.” He wiggled his eyebrows then flexed his muscles, grinning like an idiot. He really was buff. Instead of making him look scary, it sort of added to the cuteness of his personality.
