“Took you long enough!” Kate’s loud voice travelled to Jason and me as we stepped into the apartment. Walking into the living room, I saw her sitting on the couch with a glass of wine in her hand and Luca sitting next to her, both looking very happy.
Somehow, they’ve managed to get really close over the past couple of weeks. Unlike all of Kate’s other douchebag boyfriends, Luca is sweet and caring. I can honestly say that he’s the best boyfriend she’s ever had.
“So, what’s the big news?” I asked after saying hi to Luca. I saw Kate glance down at mine and Jason’s intertwined fingers and then watched her, mortified, as she winked at me. My face turned beet red and I tried snatching my hand away from Jason’s but to no avail. He smirked and shook his head, telling me that he won’t let go of my hand.
“Okay you know how I was working for that company?” She asked excitedly.
“The one that you still won’t reveal its identity? Yeah…” I trailed off, waiting for her to continue.
“Well, apparently they liked my work and they want me at their next photoshoot,” she paused for effect, then added, “In Bora Bora.”
My mouth dropped opened, “What! Oh my God, Kate that’s amazing!” I let go of Jason’s hand, rather reluctantly, and ran up to my sister to hug her.
“Wait! That’s not the best part,” She held me back at arm’s length.
“What? What could be better than you going to Bora Bora, I mean I can’t-“
“You’re coming with me.” She interrupted.
Oh.
My.
God.
“Shut up.” I said disbelievingly, my eyes as wide as my mouth.
“I’m totally serious,” Kate nodded, a huge smile on her face.
“Oh my God!” I squealed and pulled her off the couch so we could do a happy dance together. Halfway through it, I heard a distant sound in the background.
Jason’s laughter.
I stopped abruptly and turned to face him as I brushed my now messed up hair out of my face.
“I totally didn’t just dance like a maniac in the middle of the room,” I said, smiling as if what I’d just done was completely normal.
“Not at all,” he said as he tried, and failed, to control his laughter.
“Come on, I didn’t look that bad, did I?” I crossed my arms and watched him laugh uncontrollably.
“You looked absolutely normal,” Luca chipped in with an amused grin on his face.
“See? Completely normal,” I said defiantly as Jason’s laughter finally subsided.
“Well, actually,” his eyes twinkled with amusement, “You looked kind of cute,”
I slapped him on his arm as my cheeks turned a deeper shade of pink, “Oh, shut up,”
“I don’t want to interrupt your cute little moment but we’ve got to go celebrate!” Kate said loudly, taking a sip of her wine.
