The cool wind rushed towards me, ruffling my hair before moving on to someone else. I opened my eyes to the sight of the white sand stretching ahead of me, the blue ocean gradually subduing it until the golden grains were completely drowned by the deep blue water.
A strange movement to my right interrupted my revelation at the beautiful view. Reluctantly, I turned to see what was moving beside me on the sand.
A huge, slimy, green and yellow lizard.
A loud scream escaped my lips as I got up and started running away from the horrible creature. What the hell was it doing on the beach?
I slammed into a solid surface. I guess I was too busy screaming to see where I was going.
“You okay?” Jason said, wrapping me up in his arms.
“Lizard,” was all that I could say. There’s nothing I hate more than animals that crawl.
“It’s okay, I’m here now,” with that, he leaned down, slowly coming closer and closer to my lips. I stretched up on my toes. I could almost feel the taste of his lips on mine when-
“Viv, for God’s sake, wake up!” Kate’s face emerged in front of my eyes, along with the feel of icy water hitting my face like a thousand knives at once.
I shrieked, spluttering and coughing as the cold water seeped through my shirt.
“Kate, what the hell!” I screamed, getting out of bed in a flash. I stood in the middle of my room, confused as to what exactly I should do with all this water dripping from me.
Kate, on the other hand, was sprawled on the floor clutching at her stomach from all the laughter my reaction was causing.
“Oh God, I’m so going to spill a bucket of water over your head every morning!”
“Hilarious,” I growled, stepping over her to go to the bathroom. I closed the door behind me and quickly took off the wet shirt that was clinging onto me. She’s so not going to get away with that.
After taking a quick shower and brushing my teeth, I got dressed and went out into the kitchen. It was 11 am already, and Kate was still at home.
I raised my eyebrows at her, “No work?”
“Nope, I’m free for the day!” she replied cheerfully, taking a sip of orange juice.
“Cool,” I said, taking a seat on the counter.
My mind immediately drifted back to the dream I was having. I should really stop reading all of Kate’s travel brochures before going to bed. I mean, seriously? Going on a trip to the Maldives with Jason of all people? Why would my brain even conjure such a strange dream? And why Jason?
And that kiss…
If Kate hadn’t spilt water on me, we would’ve kissed again. His perfume would have taken over my brain, and his lips would have made me weak at the knees. I’d be experiencing the most amazing kiss all ov-
“Earth to Viviana,” Kate waved her hand in front of my eyes. I blinked, snapping out of my little daydream.
“You’re blushing like hell, Viv,” Kate stated, smirking at me.
“What? No I’m not,” I bluffed, fanning my face. “It’s just the heat,” I said, quickly getting off the high stool and running over to turn on the air conditioner. When I walked back into the kitchen, Kate was leaning against the stove, giving me a skeptical look.
“What?” I asked ever so innocently. I walked past her to the fridge, yanking the door open and taking out the milk carton. I poured it over my bowl of Lucky Charms and took my seat back on the high stool.
