Chapter 9: New Members of Dauntless

Tris POV

Today is the final test for the initiates. Some have done very well and have an amazing chance of passing, and others not so much. The room is packed with Dauntless members all there to support the initiates, and soon to be, new members of Dauntless.

They begin to call on them one by one. Four and I aren't able to go in since we are only their trainers and not part of leadership, but we do get to stand right out side the room. The first person called is Mike. He confidently struts up to the front of the room. We open the door for him and he steps into the fear landscape room. About 15 minutes go by and he steps out. The Dauntless cheer. They continue to call initiates.

Around 2 hours later they are just about at the end. The only person left is Lex.

"Lex!" Max calls, "you're up!" She slowly walks to the front of the room, her hands shaking a bit. Before we open the doors I stop her by putting my hand on her shoulder. She looks at me.

"Remember your training." I whisper," Think like a Dauntless not a Divergent. Do it fast but not too fast, and most importantly," I pause, "be brave." She gives me a small smile as Four opens the door for her, and she steps into the fear landscape room with the Dauntless leaders.

Over the course of stage two, we figured out Lex only has 7 fears. We trained her how to go through her fear landscape like a Dauntless would, just as Four taught me. About 8 minutes pass and she steps out. The Dauntless cheer, some with looks of shock on their faces. Max and the other Dauntless leaders look impressed. I exhale with relief.

The Dauntless leaders talk for a little while, then are ready to announce the results...

"Ladies and gentlemen!" Max starts, "May I present to you our new members of Dauntless!"
As the last word leaves his mouth the list of ranks pops up on the screen.

"And to those below the line, we will ask you to leave Dauntless grounds immediately." Max says.

Because of how many initiates we got this year, they made an exception to let ten people into Dauntless; And only five are now factionless. The Dauntless cheer and Four and I go to congratulate our initiates.

Later that night

"We did pretty good with initiation this year didn't we?" Christina says nudging me. Lauren, Christina, Four and I decided to go out and get drinks to celebrate on a job well done from initiation.

"That we did!" I reply. "Although there are some people whom I wouldn't have minded becoming factionless..."

"Yah, tell me about it." Lauren says rolling her eyes. "Macy, Erin and Hunter were total jerks. Came this close to getting kicked out for attacking an initiate." She adds.

"Yah it was like, no joke, if Peter, Molly and Drew were Dauntless borns and a year younger." Christina says before taking a gulp of her beer.

"I, for one, couldn't stand Mike." Four says, "Wouldn't have minded seeing him become factionless. You know who I was surprised by though...is the former Amity girl Olivia."

"Oh yah!" I exclaim.

"There hasn't been an Amity transfer who passed since my initiation year." Four adds.

"I think I heard one of her parents was Dauntless though." Lauren says

"That's odd." Christina starts, "never heard of a Dauntless transferring to Amity."

"Well that would certainly explain her bravery." Four says.

"And I can't believe Lex got first." Says Christina. "She is practically you Tris! I mean seven fears? Next to you and Four's that's almost unheard of!"

"Yah!" I chuckle, "I guess Dauntless is certainly becoming popular with the Abnegation. I knew she was good even before she kicked your butts in Paintball." Four and I were team captains for paintball this year and Lauren and Christina were as well. Lex was on our team and led us to victory along with Emma at the very end of the game. Christina is still a little salty about it

"Hey we don't talk about that!" Christina says rolling her eyes. We all laugh.

"But you know what I'm most excited about now that initiation is over?..." I begin, "Our wedding." I say putting my hand on top of Four's.

"Awwwwwwww." Christina says. I roll my eyes at her and laugh. I smile though, looking back into Four's strong eyes; Because there really is nothing left to focus on before I become Mrs. Tobias Eaton.
