*6 years later from previous chapter*
Four, Alyx, Aiden and I walk into the choosing ceremony room. The room echoes with voices and colors from all the factions as we take out seats. Déjà vu, I think to myself as I gaze around the room.
Aiden goes and stands with the other 16 year olds. Today Aiden will be choosing what faction he wants to live in, for the rest of his life. Four and I are not initiation instructors this year. We decided to start doing it every other year. This is our first time in the choosing ceremony room since my choosing day.
My leg bounces up and down with anxiousness, the same anxiousness I had when I was the one choosing. And now here I am, a mother watching her child make the same decision I made over 18 years ago.
"I can't wait until my choosing ceremony!" Alyx says smiling beside me.
"Just two more years." I say
"I'm choosing Dauntless no matter what." She replies. I chuckle. She is so sure of what faction he wants to be in. I was too until my aptitude test...
A few minutes later the room is silenced and everyone is sitting in their respective seats. My father, who is now the ceremony announcer, calls up the first name.
"Adams, Sarah." A girl from Amity. She walks up cheerfully to the stage. She picks up the knife and cuts her hand letting the blood drip into the Amity bowl. The Amity smile and cheer. The list keeps going...
It's about half an hour before Aiden's name is called.
"Prior, Aiden."
He confidently walks up to the stage. He slices his palm with the knife not even flinching. He takes a deep breath and lets the blood drop onto the coals, making them sizzle.
Four and I exhale, after holding our breaths, and cheer along with the Dauntless as he joins the other initiates. He looks up at us and grins. The same grin I had when I joined Dauntless and my life was changed forever, for the better...for a better life.
