"Hey, Kid," Rhodey greeted after FRIDAY announced his arrival.
"Hi, Rhodes," Peter smiled as he threw his backpack onto the couch in the common room and headed into the kitchen. "What's up? I feel like I haven't seen you since Christmas."
"It's Rhodey, but yeah, Ross and the Air Force has me busy," Rhodey agreed.
"How are you doing all that when, y'know," Peter began.
"I know what you mean," Rhodey laughed. "Lots of PT but Tony's tech is really doing the heavy lifting."
"Well, I doubt that," Peter turned to get a water bottle from the fridge. "When was the last time you were back home?"
"Probably a few weeks, so not too bad. I got back a few hours ago," Rhodey replied. "Oh, forgot to tell you, but Tony is out of town but you are allowed to go to the lab. He said to 'make sure nothing explodes and you're good' which isn't surprising. He's kind of a hypocrite but I've given up he's a mess."
"Wait, HAS anything exploded when he was in the lab?" Peter raised an eyebrow.
"God, yes," Rhodey chuckled. "I can't even keep track of all of them anymore."
"Wow," Peter said in disbelief.
"Also, Natty is out of town too," Rhodey stated. "And she said that if you ask, you need to 'work on knife tricks and use Rhodey as a test dummy.' Personally, I am kindly instructing you DON'T so sorry, Kid."
"Alright," Peter laughed. "I wouldn't have done it, anyway."
"Whew, that's assuring," Rhodey smiled. "What are you working on tonight?"
"Not too much, actually," Peter skimmed his planner. "I got most of it done during study hall and I have a quick math assignment."
"Cool, so do you want to go out for dinner or something?" Rhodey offered.
"Are you sure? I mean, you're probably tired from traveling and everything and-" Peter rambled.
"It's not a problem, Pete," Rhodey assured him. "Plus, I would kill for some really good food."
"In that case, I'm in!" Peter accepted the offer.
"Great!" Rhodey nodded. "Leave in a few hours?"
"Sounds good!"
Rhodey then turned and left to do a small amount of paperwork as well as call his family to catch up for a bit. Peter decided to head down to the lab to finish his math homework and also (carefully) play around with the tech down there. Peter finished his work very quickly, in about 15 minutes, and then decided to try and build something.
He sat for a bit, trying to think of something to build, and settled on a small robot. It was relatively easy to code because he didn't want anything too complicated, but building it took a bit longer. He settled on a simple design and it (kind of, not really) resembled a dog. Peter had to do a bit of digging to find the supplies he needed and since Tony's lab was a mess, that also took a bit longer. After it was built and all the codes were set, he decided to put Karen into it, which he thankfully remembered how to do. Luckily, the entire process took about an hour and a half.
"Hello, uh, Karen?" Peter tested if he built and coded everything correctly.
"Hello, King of Spiders," the robot said back.
"HOLY SHIT I DID IT!" Peter pumped his fist.
"Language, Peter," the robot calmly said.
"I have got to figure out how to disable that feature," Peter muttered.
