"Mariana? What's wrong I can't understand you" Evan said confused over the phone.  Mariana had called him to tell him the news and couldn't seem to find the words. She was so heartbroken.
"S-sorry" Mariana said wiping her tears away.
"Why are you crying?" Evan sounded worried. She felt so bad for him.
"I had a m-miscarriage" Mariana buried her face in her pillows and sobbed.
"Oh my god. Are you sure?" Evan was in denial about what she just told him.
"Yes, I'm sure. I wish you were here"
"Me too. I am so sorry. It will be okay. Everything happens for a reason" Evan tried to be positive. He had trouble expressing his emotions but Mariana could hear the sadness in his voice.
"Yeah, I guess so" Mariana sighed as she rubbed her stomach again. The familiar feeling though this time felt empty.
"So are you in pain?"
"A little. I'm cramping a lot. They said I'll be heavily bleeding for about a few days to a week. During then is when I'll.." Mariana choked on her words,
"It's okay" Evan said trying to encourage her to keep talking.
"I'll miscarry the baby. I just hope I don't notice when it happens" Mariana said trying to hold in more tears that were threatening to fall.
"Just hang in there. Imagine me holding your hand and giving you a hug" Mariana smiled at his comment.
"Okay"
Callie walked into the loft and slowly shut the door,
"I told moms"
"You did? What did they say?" Mariana sat up and hung up after saying goodbye to Evan.
"They just had a few questions about who's baby it was. I told them. Then they said they can't wait to be here with you"
"Oh, I guess that's okay. Thanks for telling them"
"Of course" Callie held her hand and climbed onto her bed with her.
She had so many questions about how she was feeling but decided to refain from asking. It might be a sensitive topic for her.
"I also told the other coterie members, knowing them everyone probably knows by now" Callie cracked a smile.
"Thanks"
"Why don't we go outside and relax? It'll take your mind off things hopefully and fresh air will be good for you" Mariana agreed and they walked outside. She avoided anyone who was around and sat on a poolside chair. She snuggled up with her blanket. They enjoyed the rest of the evening.

It was about 9 pm and Callie waited eagerly by the elevator for her moms. Mariana was in their loft relaxing now. She had started to feel really ill and the cramping pain was unbearable for her. Callie felt so bad not knowing what to do and was glad Stef and Lena would be here.
"Moms!" Callie said giving them a hug as they exited the elevator.
"Hi love, I'm so proud of you! Congratulations again!" Stef said giving her a kiss.
"Thanks mom"
"And I'm so proud too, look at my little lawyer" Lena said hugging her as well.
"I love you guys, thank you" Callie said smiling brighter and more genuine than she has in a while. She just passed one of the biggest challenges in life and felt blessed to know she was off to better things soon.
They walked through the coterie which now seemed quiet.
"Wow, it's never this calm" Stef laughed.
"Everyone must be in their lofts already" Callie said leading them to theirs.
"Mariana isn't feeling too well" Callie warned before entering. The moms held hands as they looked at each other.
Mariana noticed her moms come in and she sat up slightly,
"Moms" she said smiling. Though anyone could tell it was a fake smile. Her eyes were sad and swollen and she looked exaughsted.
"Hi baby" Lena said going up to her and wrapping her in a hug.
"We missed you love. And we heard the news, I'm so sorry" Stef said sitting on the other side and gave her a mama sandwich. Mariana couldn't hold in her emotions any longer, she cried in her moms arms and they let her.
"Shh it's okay" Stef said rubbing her back. Lena started quietly crying as well. Callie stood watching and sat on her bed that was across the room, she quickly wiped her own tears away. She hated seeing them all like this.
She listened as they spoke,
"Are you in a lot of pain?" Stef said touching her forehead.
"Yes"
"We brought you a heating pad, I think this might help" Lena said getting up and bringing over the few gifts she had.
"Thanks"
"I know how hard this is. Mine was a different circumstance, but when I lost Frankie I felt hopeless and wrong. It was a lot of shame. I don't want you to feel that way okay?" Lena said holding onto her hands.
"I feel like I let Evan down. I love the baby and I didn't even realize I did until now" Mariana said leaning her head on Lena's shoulder.
"It's not your fault, not at all. It takes time to feel like yourself again but,  if you ever need help along the way, for anything. Don't be afraid to get help, you can also talk to me and mom you know that" Lena said hugging her tightly.
"I know, thanks mama" Mariana closed her eyes in her embrace and Stef smiled at them.
"You too, come here. You need another hug" she opened her arms and Callie hesitantly walked over and accepted.

The night was long. Mariana had spent most of her time in the communal bathroom drifting in and out of sleep while sitting on the toilet. Not the most ideal sleeping arrangement. But it beat having to get up every 15 minutes.
"Are you okay?" Lena whispered to Mariana who finally came back into the loft early morning.
"I guess" she said taking a sip of water.
"It'll get better, the first day after is always the worst" Lena moved the hair away from her face.
"I hope so" she said exaughsted.
Evan didn't tell Mariana but, he was planning a surprise for her that would hopefully make her happy. He boarded a plane back to LA and texted Mariana

E: I love you. Hope you are feeling good today

He didn't regret leaving his trip. This was important to him. To be there for the woman he loved.
