Picnic

"Okay so, this is called a probe, I will be using it for your transvaginal ultrasound" the nurse said while Mariana layed on the hospital chair, her bottom half covered by a cloth.
Callie held Mariana's hand as she watched the nurse show the long lubricated stick like tool.
"Will it hurt?" Mariana said nervously as the nurse positioned herself to insert it.
"No, not at all. Just might be a little uncomfortable. If it hurts let me know" the nurse said as she gently inserted the tool into her vagina to begin the ultrasound.
Mariana's face tensed up,
Callie mimicked her facial expressions, the ultrasound alone was enough birth control for her.
"So everything looks great. Looks to be around 5 weeks, see that little sac? That's your baby" she said smiling.
"Oh my god.. wow" Mariana still could not believe she was having a baby with Evan.
Once the nurse was finished she had Mariana sit up.
"I really don't know anything about being pregnant and I'm kinda freaking out about everything" she said what was on her mind and Callie gave her a sympathetic glance.
"We have some resources and classes you can take to better prepare yourself. I understand it can be overwhelming at first but I promise that feeling won't be forever" she said giving her a stack of pamphlets and writing down a phone number.
They left the office shortly after,
"How are you feeling?" Callie said stopping Mariana before they got to the car.
"Terrified. But I think I'm okay" she said taking a deep breath.
"I can't believe I'm gonna be an auntie!" Callie said as she smiled wide.
"The best auntie" Mariana smiled with her and pulled her in for a hug.
"Wait, this means you need to get pregnant so that our kids can be best friends!" She said excitedly.
"Ummm I think I'll pass" she said giggling as they got in the car.
"Hey, but it wasn't a bad idea" Mariana said trying to sound convincing and Callie rolled her eyes. She couldn't stop thinking about how later tonight with Jamie will go.
They arrived back at the coterie,
"Oh my gosh what are you doing here?!" Mariana said as she saw Evan standing by the elevator.
"I wanted to see you and say I am sorry" he said handing her flowers.
"These are beautiful!" She said burying her nose in the red and pink roses.
"Of course I also have a surprise for you but I will not tell you what it is. I will say it requires leaving this building" he said  looking at her.
"Okay, that's kinda the point of a surprise. Let me change first then I will come back down" she said pressing the elevator button to head up to her loft.
"Hi Evan" Callie said waving.
"Hello Callie. Early bird?" He said noticing the time.
"Yeah.. uh.. I sometimes wake up earlier before work to go for a walk.. with Mariana" she said as they nodded and looked at each other.
"K I'll be right back!" Mariana said as they entered the elevator.
"Real smooth" she said in a whisper.
"What it was a good reason" she said fixing her small ponytail.
"Where do you think he's taking you?" Callie said nudging her shoulder.
"I don't know. I hope not somewhere like a lamaze class or something for pregnant women" she said groaning.
"You're 5 weeks that would be crazy" Callie said laughing.
"You never know" she said as they stepped out from the elevator.
"I'm sure it's a nice date he has planned. Just go have fun and don't worry" Callie said giving her a hug and then went off to get ready for work.
Mariana picked out a casual but cute outfit. She noticed that Evan was wearing jeans and a cardigan t shirt so she went off that. She was almost finished getting ready when Davia barged in,
"What the hell?" Mariana said turning around to face her,
"Malika is no help she wants me to meditate with her. I needed to ask for advice, I want to show Dennis that even though I made a mistake I am still willing to give us a try and am still in love with him" she said sitting down.
"You want to know what to do?" She said confused.
"Yes dammit what should I do? There has to be someone with a creative thought in their mind" she said
"Ouch. Um maybe you can do another video ohh or song?" Mariana said winking at her.
"Oh my gosh! Why didn't I think of that? I could sing an original song for him and he'll have to forgive me" she said snapping her fingers.
Mariana stood up putting her hands on her hips with pride,
"You're welcome" she said grabbing her purse and jacket.
"Where are you going?"
"Just a surprise date with Evan. Good luck!" She said before heading out and back down with Evan.
"All ready? You look amazing" Evan said to Mariana watching her exit the elevator.
"Thanks! Oh this? It's nothing I just threw it on" she said touching the jean jacket she chose. They got in his vehicle and he turned to her,
"Close your eyes" he said and she did as told. He started driving to the secret location.
"This is so exciting" she said about 10 minutes into the drive.
"Almost there" he said gently laying his hand ontop of hers, the touch of his skin gave her goosebumps.
They drove in silence the rest of the way.
"Are you asleep?" Evan said opening her car door noticing she had still been in the same position for a while and her head was drooping.
"Oops" she said waking up,
"The drive must have put me to sleep, you know, with having to keep my eyes closed and all" she yawned.
"Oh you're so cute when you sleep" he said blushing.
She smiled and blushed in return.
"Well, we're here" he said as she got out of the vehicle, it was at a park nearby close to several mountains that gave a nice view.
"Wow, Evan. It's gorgeous here" she said admiring the view.
"And it is where I come a lot to clear my head and relax" he said bringing out a basket full of food.
"Oh my gosh, a picnic!" She said pouting her lip. Maybe he was more romantic than she thought.
"Yes, I made sandwiches, no cheese, but I did bring some cheese just in case you wanted some. Oh and I got fruit snacks, strawberry and cherry ones only of course" he said placing a table cloth over the table.
"Evan I love all of this, thank you, seriously " she said looking at him place the food in front of them.
"I thought you might like it I'm trying to be more 'romantic' and 'exciting' at least that's my goal in therapy" he said  smiling
"Therapy?" Mariana said confused.
"Yeah, I talk to a therapist, about everything. I have ever since I was in middle school, it's kinda like family now. Anyway, sometimes I talk about us"
"Ohh. . What do you say?" She said now curious.
"I am just trying to be a better boyfriend and father" he said still smiling. This made Mariana uncomfortable, knowing that his therapist knew she was pregnant before anyone else, even her family. She was scared of how she could tell her moms.
"Let's just eat" he said noticing her expression changing.
About a half hour later it was time for dessert,
"Okay don't laugh but I tried to make pinapple dipped in chocolate. I found out that those were your favorite" he said excitedly.
"Wait, who told you that?" She said laughing.
"I have my sources, but they're confidential" he said showing her the fruit.
"Wow, those look delicious!" She said grabbing one.
"Mmm they are" she said,
"I actually have been craving really sweet and cold things so this is perfect" she said and Evan smiled,
"I'm glad, you are having cravings already?" He said taking a bite.
"Well, yeah, at least I think so.. speaking of the baby, I went to get an ultrasound yesterday" she said half lying and half telling the truth.
"Really?" He said shocked.
"Yeah and they gave me these" she said bringing out the pictures to show him.
"So tiny" Evan said admiring the ultrasound pictures.
"Have you told anyone yet?" He said interrupting the moment.
"No, no one besides Callie" she said nodding her head.
"When can I tell my family and friends?" He said looking over at her.
"You can tell your family whenever you're ready. I think I am going to tell mine soon but, I don't want Speckulate to know yet" she said making sure he didn't tell them. She wasn't ready for them to know, even if she wasn't working there anymore.
"Okay" he said as they both enjoyed the rest of the picnic.
"Have you found another place to work? You know you can still come back to Speckulate" Evan said.
"I'm still looking" she said holding onto her stomach.
"What's wrong?" He said concerned.
"Oh nothing I'm just cramping a little, I think it's the morning sickness" she said suddenly not feeling hungry anymore.
"It's okay, I can take you back home" he said smiling and she nodded.
They soon arrived back at the coterie. He opened the door for her,
"Thank you" she said blushing. She loved how kind he was.
He leaned in and they kissed as he gently placed his hands on her stomach. She pulled away quickly,
"They don't know yet" she said quietly.
"Oh yeah. I forgot. Next time you go to a doctors appointment can I come?" He said shyly.
"Of course, I just didn't want to overwhelm you with all your work. I know you are working on that new app" she said regretting not inviting him to the first one.
"It's all good" he said kissing her again before walking back to the elevator.
"I will see you soon... I love you" he said
"I love you too" she said as he watched her go up in the elevator.
She sighed as she headed into the loft.
"What's wrong with you?" Davia instantly commented.
"Nothing, I'm just tired I've been up since like 5" she said walking to her room to take a nap.
".. Mariana... Mariana" Callie said lightly shaking her.
"Huh?" Mariana said opening her eyes frightened.
"Woah it's okay. I just needed your opinion and you slept like all day" Callie said laughing slightly.
Mariana looked around and noticed it was dark out.
"Wow, what time is it?" She said sitting upright.
"It's 6. I'm getting ready to go to Jamie's so, wish me luck. Oh and I wanted to ask you which jacket looks best" Callie said showing her the two options. One being a more casual brown cardigan and the other being a more formal black suit style.
"I like the cardigan one. Isn't it funny how it's usually me asking for clothes opinions? The tables have turned" Mariana said giggling. Just then she got another cramp. She held onto her stomach and rubbed it slightly.
"Are you okay?" Callie said instantly changing her mood.
Uhh yeah, I have just been cramping a little. I googled it and it said that some cramping is normal" she said trying to be optimistic.
"Okay well, be careful and take it easy okay?" She said putting on the cardigan and walking up to Mariana to sit next to her.
"Okay, I will"
"How was it with Evan?" She said smirking.
"It was really sweet, he planned a picnic" she said smiling.
"Aww that sounds romantic" Callie said getting up and grabbing her bag.
"Good luck with Jamie. Try not to kill each other or have too much fun. Honestly it could go either way" she said laughing and Callie pretended to be hurt,
"Very funny, I'll see you later" she said heading out the door to Jamie's place.
