Horrible Together

She arrived back home at the coterie but stopped when she heard crying coming from the communal bathroom.
She quietly walked in and heard it again, quiet sobs, and it sounded like Callie.
She peeked under a few stalls and saw her shoes,
"Callie?" She said and Callie opened the stall door. Her eyes red and her face sad. She couldn't hold in her tears,
"Jamie called and said he wants me to go over there and pick up all my things. He said we're over" she looked down crying as she put her hand over her mouth.
"Come here" Mariana moved closer to hug her and held her for what seemed like hours.
"If it makes you feel any better I just broke up with Raj today too. I'm a horrible person" Mariana said still hugging her.
"Im so sorry.. No you're not, I'm the horrible person, I betrayed Jamie and put his entire career in jeopardy." She said.
"Well, I slept with Evan last night" she quickly added and Callie let go of the hug to look at Mariana,
"Are you serious?" She said in disbelief.
"Yeah.. I liked it too. While I was still technically with Raj."
"He did cheat on you too. With Isabella, isn't that what Davia said? She had sex with Raj"
"Yeah, supposedly but I mean it's not like we have proof."
"Mariana, she's been after Raj from the moment she moved in with you. It's obviously true and he admitted his feeling for her, who knows what she's capable of" Callie said.
"But I did too" Mariana said as Callie looked at her confused.
"I told him I had feeling for Evan too. We both admitted it."
"Isn't that a good thing then? You guys clearly were not happy together anyway" Callie said wiping some old tears from her face.
"I guess" Mariana said grabbing Callie's hand.
"So did you want to date Evan? Are you guys like a thing now?"
"You know how inappropriate dating your own boss is? Like very.. imagine you dating Marcus or something" Mariana said and Callie shook her head in disgust.
"Exactly"
"Well, if you like him I think it's worth trying... I hate being alone at night" Callie said looking down.
"Awe, you miss me?" Mariana said sticking her bottom lip out.
"Kinda.. and I almost slept with Gael again."
"NO WAY" Mariana said.
"Shhh. Not so loud.. but almost. I was in a horrible headspace and I was missing Jamie and he met me on the roof but I didn't go back to his loft." Callie said shaking her head.
"Ok good. I was really hoping you and Jamie figured things out." She said rubbing her arm.
"Me too. I'm a horrible person" Callie said leaning against the stall as she tried not to let more tears fall.
Mariana wrapped her in a hug again,
"We can be horrible together" she said as they both laughed.
"Ummm, what's going on in here?" Davia said walking into the bathroom.
"Sister time" Mariana said looking over at her.
"In the bathroom?" She said with an eyebrow raise.
"It's not like I have anywhere else to go" Callie added.
"Touché" Davia continued washing her hands.
They hugged for a bit until they saw a guy run into the bathroom and enter a stall as quick as he could.
"We should go now" Callie said and Mariana nodded her head in agreement as they headed out.
Later that day Mariana got a phone call from Raj, she was outside enjoying the night with everyone and drinking some wine.
She stepped away to take the call,
"Hello?"
"Mariana, please listen, I don't want things to end like this, what can I do to show you that I can be trusted? I never wanted to pursue anything with Isabella and I'm willing to give us one more try" he pleaded.
Mariana didn't know what to say. She thought she loved Raj but being with Evan made her feel something she has never felt before.
She didn't want to confront him about what she found out about Isabella, not right now anyway.
"Raj, I just need to think about everything ok? I need time, honestly, I don't know what I want and need you to respect that." She said
"Ok." She could hear the pain in his voice, did he know about her and Evan? She hung up without saying anything more.
She went back to sit with the girls,
"What's been up with you?" Malika said looking at Mariana who was spaced out,
"Uhh nothing. Ugh I made a mistake" she said taking a sip of her wine.
"Oooh, what kind of mistake?" Ruby said who was sitting next to Alice.
"I slept with my boss" she said nonchalantly taking another sip.
Davia nearly spit out her wine,
"I KNEW IT!" she yelled and Alice laughed.
"Yeah, well now Raj wants to work things out but I completely ruined that"
"You mean, HE ruined that when he slept with little miss you can't get rid of me" she said motioning to Isabella who was swimming in the pool with a man Mariana has never seen before.
"I know, speaking of, have you figured out an idea?" She said to Alice.
"I'm working on it" she said taking a deep breath.
"I need to talk to Isabella and ask her if she had sex with him because he seems really genuine on the phone"
"Girl, my opinion, you both aren't committed. Was he good?" Davia said smirking at Mariana.
She blushed,
"Actually... yes" she took another sip.
"Talk to Evan, stop avoiding him, you never know what can happen and I think y'all are so cute together" Malika said and everyone agreed.
Mariana knew she liked Evan, a lot, but she didn't want to ruin her career.
They stayed outside for a few more hours.
"Ok I should go back inside and sleep." She said getting up.
"Goodnight!" They said as she walked away and over to Callie who was sleeping on one of the poolside chairs with a small blanket draped over her.
She felt bad for her with everything she was going through as well.
She fixed the blanket on her and gave her a kiss on the cheek before going inside into her loft.
She fell asleep pretty quickly until she was woken up a few hours later to Isabella giggling and slamming the door.
"Ugh" she groaned.
"Oh, shh" Isabella said to the guy she brought into the loft.
"You know, some of us actually work and have to get up early" Mariana said annoyed at her constant inconsiderate actions.
"Well, I didn't know I shared a room with grumpy the dwarf" Isabella said laughing.
Mariana ignored her and eventually fell asleep again.
The next day at work Mariana didn't try to avoid Evan but it felt like he was the one avoiding now.
Every time she would glance at him he looked away and he didn't say a word to her.
"Mariana" she heard Evan say and she immediately stood up.
"I would like you to meet your new teammates, Gavin and Chris. They are great engineers and will be helping you with some app stuff and coding for a new system update I have planned. You can find all the details online" he said.
"I thought you were going to let me stay with the girls?" She said
"I'm trying something new" Evan replied.
"Am I team leader?" Mariana questioned nervously.
"Yes, I would like you to be team leader again, for now and Raj will be joining again too" Mariana nodded but inside her head she was screaming.
To make matters worse the new teammates barely listened to what she said and whispered among each other often. They had all quickly became friends with each other leaving Mariana feeling left out.
She felt like it was her first day all over again.
After work she saw Evan heading out to the elevator and she rushed up to him.
They got in the elevator together.
"Can we please talk? About us, are we good? You're mad at me aren't you, that's why you won't give me my team back" Mariana said nervously, she so badly wanted him to say that he liked her and wanted to start a relationship but another part of her felt like that would be wrong. She was so conflicted. He finally spoke up after a few seconds of silence,
"Well, I think..."
