October 31st, 1996

It was Halloween night. Ginny, Hermione, and I were in the middle of getting dressed for the Gryffindor party that was taking place in the common room in about an hour. We decided to do our own costumes this year; Ginny was a witch, Hermione was a cat, and I dressed up as a mouse. The thing was, none of us were really feeling up to attending the party.

I threw off my mouse ears, collapsing my head in my hands, "I really don't want to go to this party tonight you guys... I'm going to be forced to interact with him... and it'll be even worse if she shows up!"

"Me neither..." Ginny sighed, "Dean and I are on a break... and I just don't want to see him..."

"Well... I don't want to go if you guys aren't going!" Hermione protested.

I didn't want to spend the night watching Neville and Hannah grind on one another. I would have rather gorged my eyes out. Ginny didn't want to interact with Dean, and Hermione didn't want to go alone. But we were all expected to go, Harry and Ron would've worried if we didn't show.

"What if we just stayed in for the night?" Hermione suggested, "We can tell Harry and Ron, and they can join us!"

"Do you really think that Harry and Ron will miss a party just because we don't feel like going?" I scoffed, looking up at her before collapsing my head against my hands once more.

"Also, that's boring, 'Mione!" Ginny protested, "Every other house is going to be partying tonight, and you want us to sit in our dorm?"

"Well... we're always more than welcome to enjoy the Halloween feast and festivities in the Great Hall!" Hermione mocked, "If you like hanging out with eleven and twelve year-olds!"

Ginny cocked her head, "Yes... because that's exactly how I want to spend my night... hanging out with children."

"What about attending a Deathday party?" Hermione suggested, "And I'm being serious this time around! Harry, Ron, and I attended Nearly Headless Nick's our second-year and it was actually quite fun!"

"'Mione... didn't you lot leave because of all the rotten food?" Ginny laughed, "I thought you guys had a miserable time!"

Hermione rolled her eyes, "Look... I'm just giving options because Nearly Headless Nick turned five-hundred and four today!"

It was then that a lightbulb lit in my brain. I had the best... yet worst...idea ever. The discussion of Nearly Headless Nick helped me come up with it.

I quickly looked up at the two girls, "I have an idea... How will it play out? That's a tossup... but it's a very good idea..."

"Well... what is it?" Hermione asked.

"One question..." Ginny asked abruptly, "Does it involve sitting in this dorm, going to the party downstairs, or anything 'Mione just mentioned?"

I hastily shook my head, standing up from my seat, "I may... or may not, it really just depends on who's guarding the door... be able to get us into the Slytherin house party..."

"Dawn... no." Hermione and Ginny said at the same time.

"WHAT?" I protested, "OH, COME ON, THIS IS THE BEST IDEA THAT I'VE HAD IN A WHILE!"
