Chapter 18: The Lecture

Alex's Pov

"All you people can do is laugh, but not even care that Jackson or Echo are safe?! If the sky stop fucking moving, maybe he already starting to do something! Why can't we come up with a plan first and then laugh about everything?!" I yell. I feel my fists clench and see everyone looking at me.

"Alex, man. Calm down, we'll get them back. We never fail, you know that," Tuck tries to reassure me.

"No! This is different from the original plan! The plan was to get the journals and claim the mon for it! Now, this can ruin all the chances for a normal life! Sometimes I wish we never met Echo! Maybe then, we all have a damn normal life! No one would be moving! Gary and Gigi would never showed up! And we wouldn't be risking our lives for some piece of shit!" I yell without realizing all the words I say.

I Storm out of the kitchen and into my backyard as I look at the sky. I look at it and pretend it's moving. I'll get you back Jack, I promise.

"Yo, that was some scene man," Luke comments. I roll my eyes as he sits next to me on my he grass.

"Get lost," I tell him.

"I know you care about Jackson, and I know your promise to her. To always protect her and Echo," he reminds me of that promise.

"Well, I couldn't protect either as you can tell. This all was damn set up I bet," I say.

"You know, if Echo never came into your lives, you never met Jackson. You would never have the great memories you would miss. Maybe you wouldn't even be able to have friends you knew so long," Luke explains to me.

"Get to the point in this," I groan.

"You're letting all your worries into anger. That's what caused you to yell. To be honest, I was like you as a teenager. I met Rana by our alien friend. Except she didn't get captive, but Lily did. It took us awhile to figure a plan to work, but we did it. It's hard to forget what we did when we make promises we try to keep. Maybe a different promise you could've gave was to always be a good friend mate," Luke explains a long essay to me.

"Okay, I get it. It's just, Jackson always there to calm me down or to have fun or to just be amazing. Without her, I would never had any one to help me," i tell him.

Jack was always there for me and all I did was get her in trouble and let her fall. It makes me feel guilty when I know that I failed her when she was in trouble. I know I'm very idiotic, and immature, and can get a little angry at points, but Jack was the one who could always handle me. My foster parents couldn't even do that.

"Tell me. Was this all for Jackson? Get the money and have the perfect life you want with her?" Luke asks me.

"My friends always helped me. I never helped them. I led them to danger and trouble. I thought I could finally be a hero for a change, but I guess not," I reply.

"You don't need to do that. You risk your life for them. Hell, you are risking your life for two friends instead of focusing on a career plan," Luke tells me. "Listen, there are three types of people in this world. The genius, who are people who planned ahead. The realists, the ones who think make believe isn't real. And then the heroes, the ones who believe in everything even when it's not real or real," he explains.

"Which are as?" I ask him.

"We my fair man, are all three. We plan ahead, we believe the unreal, and we go wherever the world takes us," he replies. I think it over and then looked at him.

"What about being a realist?" I ask him.

"We aren't a realist anymore when we finally believe the unexpected," he replies.

"You sound like-" I start.

"Jackson, of course I do. We all got to sometimes sound like a person we never knew. That's why I'm a realist. You'll understand when you're older," he tells me as he leaves me alone.
