Rulers of the Court [Kageyama Tobio X Reader]

Nekoma

Miyagi Prefecture, School Gymnasium,
Day of the practice match

Everyone is walking towards the gym where the practice match was going to happen and you were lagging behind as you were carrying some stuff for the team

"Do you need help?" A voice from the front suddenly said as the owner's body stopped to look at your struggling state

"I'm good Tobio" You only used his first name when you were serious and he didn't like it when you used it that way. He fell behind with you grabbed some of the stuff off of your hands and continued walking like nothing had happened

What is wrong with Yama-yama, not sure if he's genuinely helping me or messing with me

You huffed out your thoughts and continued to walk side by side with Kageyama stopping when you were met with the opposing team

The pudding and bed head you had saw earlier that week was standing there in the same looking uniforms as before. Both teams mingled for a bit before coming inside the gym where you and Kiyoko stayed the whole time

The teams were slowly filing the gym and as always Hinata was exaggerating everything that had came to sight.

The match started as soon as everyone had prepared and seeing them in uniforms gave you a weird satisfaction that maybe mom's felt

From the early game of the match, the boys were racking points, surprising the opposite team with an attack only the freak duo can do. With points of 7-10 the Nekoma team had called a time out and you knew immediately that they had something up their sleeve

After the timeout, the match continued and you didn't notice the uneasiness you get from the opposing team. The match continued on and the point gap kept closing in until they had won the set

"Here you go" You handed a milk carton from your bag as Kageyama passed by looking pissed

"Huh-" He mumbled going out of his trance of thinking looking for the direction where the milk had came from

"You sure are prepared when it comes to Kageyama, huh Y/N-san" Hinata was now beside you, basically inhaling his water. You got flustered and tried to change the topic by talking about their Number 7 who has been tailing Hinata....

Which seemed to have worked

Not long after the break, the second set begun and everyone were on their toes. The intensity from the match was already out there but the fact that it's a so called "garbage heap" made the match even more fun and hard to watch (A/N: I'm sorry if you don't understand this part, I'm not drunk, just crazy and confused)

With Number 7 tailing Hinata, the attack options were down by two with Asahi and Tanaka racking as much points as they can. The match continued in the background when you approached Keishin to tell him what's been bugging your mind

"Coach," you called out as an assistant manager and not as his niece nor their friends. You were on your Queen mode

Keishin turned to you and he almost couldn't believe his eyes. You were in your mode again, a mode you could only activate on matches and serious times

"I see you're on your mode" He amused, turning his full attention to you, slightly joking but is fully aware

"Kageyama needs to change it up if he wants to match Hinata's new attacks" You said with all seriousness and you could tell Keishin agreed with you

"I'm not going to mess with your coaching, but you should really do something about it" You ended your state there, not wanting to pry more than you already did

After waiting for a bit, Takeda called a timeout and the boys had their meeting regarding the matter you brought up

"I saw you talking to Coach earlier, what did you tell him that made Sensei call a time out?" Kiyoko asked as you stare at them intently

"If we want to win this set, we'll have to switch things up. Number 7 and their setter are unto us and their overall team are good with receives" You simply said like it was the most easy thing to understand for everyone. Kiyoko was definitely taken aback by your sudden seriousness and just kept doing her charts after the time out has ended

Observing the match, you noticed that Kageyama's sets were slower and more thought out so that Hinata can have more air time. Of course Hinata fumbled the ball....alot and got spiked and missed but that didn't stop him from going. When the score was 24-23 Hinata even got serious and pulled a nice spike, but alas it was futile and they still lost both sets

"One more!"

Eh?!

"One more.." Hinata yelled and insisted to do more matches. And for the better.or worse he got his way and everyone dropped to the floor one by one until everyone grew tired and were passed out on the floor

"ONE MOREEE!!!" Hinata struggled in Keishin's arms as he called out more even though he looks just as tired as everyone else you sighed with everyone else as you and other people that were free cleaned up

"Kiyoko! Kiyoko Shimizu..." You could hear Tanaka and his look alike and also personality twin talk in the storage room.

You finished everything you needed to do and checked inside your bag if you missed anything. You saw a couple of milk cartons that you haven't drunk yet and looked around for Kageyama. You saw him stare at the poor pudding boy, Kenma, as Hinata calls him, as he mumbles questions that were setter related

I swear-

"Hai hai, let's go..." You dragged him and the mop he was holding, away from the crowd and chucked the milk on his hands

"Ōsama, you need to chill. You've been fussed out the whole day and I am not liking it" You tsked and closed your eyes to add emphasis on your point as he stood there like a little kid

"We'll win next time" You got scared, the auras that the coaches and captains let out was a little too intense.

Tanaka seemed to have made a new friend. In fact everyone became friends. The rivalry starts, with friendship on the side, from the generations of Nekoma and Karasuno, this might even be the best one yet

You said your goodbyes and parted ways in good spirits. You went back to school with good and bad results but that's beside the fact that, that this practice match made a big impact on both sides

I'm finally able to update!!!

This chapter is confusing for me and I don't know what to feel about it. There are some parts I didn't include because they were a little irrelevant to the story.

Details on the "Queen Mode" will of course be explained in a bonus chapter where I explain the stats for Y/N.
