Levi was torn apart from the information you just said. It was proof that this entire time he has been killing people that were forced to become titans.

Without their will or sense of thinking.
They were prisoners being driven in devouring people in hopes of regaining back their own humanity.

“I’m sorry it’s just.” Erwin looked up to you, his eyes looking at you like a holy goddess. “I have always had this dream of knowing the truth and you just gave it to me. For years men have died by my orders just so I could selfishly achieve that dream, the dream you just gave me. The truth about the Titans. I no longer see a doubt, you are our hope for freedom.”

Levi’s eyes were shaking seeing a tear coming down his commander's cheek. “Commander?”

“We want freedom as well.” Erwin kept his smile feeling at peace. That the lives of his men were not in vain.

He has to one way or another convince you to be by their side.
“Here.” He hands you your handgun. “I want this to stay with you.”

It was a kind gesture one that you weren’t expecting.

“I wouldn’t believe you are with us in hell since these materials were sent with you. We already have a mission and that’s to be free just as you want to be.”

He didn’t let you take the gun right away; he kept holding onto it with you on the other end. “I don’t want to force you into this but you can be a great ally in helping us achieve our freedom. We want to know where the Titans are coming from.

If we manage to have an understanding this gives us a step further into knowing where our path is.

We can save more lives.

We want out of these walls.
We don’t want to live without fear.
I carry many deaths on my shoulder because of what I want to achieve.
But with what you just said I feel some of that weight has lifted off my shoulders.
Eren is our path to freedom against the titans.

But so are you.

I won't force you to stay.

I'll give you freedom to come to us when you are ready. I know when the time comes you'll make the right choices, for yourself. We will make the arrangements in giving you a purpose."

His eyes held that pressure towards you, he’s confident that under the right circumstance you will make the right decision. Releasing his grip on the gun it weighed into your hand as you pulled it back.

He knew by handing you this weapon you can already make that choice in killing them. To see if you have grown hatred for them, if you did choose to shoot them he would understand.

And that choice will be the result as to how this war will change.

Even if we grant you freedom we won’t promise you that  you will be safe even with Reiner. I don’t know what connection you made with him but it’s highly doubtful that it’s something romantic.

This may be something you don’t want to hear. But if you claim to have a power they once held then it’s a great possibility that they want that power back. I understand that you were confused by all of this.
