Val's POV
I growled when I felt the pillow hit me.
"You better have a good reason for waking me up." I said as I tried to cover my eyes from the light in my room.
"We got a lead on the demon." My parabatai's sister said. I groaned and got up shooing the youngest female Lightwood out of my room before I turned and got changed in a black short sleeved crop top, black pants with my weapons belt, black thigh high boots, black fingerless gloves, and a black leather jacket. I brushed my orange-red hair out and pulled it up into a messy bun as I walked out of my room and down to the ops room.
I fiddled with my family ring around my neck as Jace and I waited as patiently as possible for the two Lightwoods siblings to show up. I ignored the bickering siblings and walked into the weapons room and grabbed a few throwing knives and placed them in the belt as well as some seraph blades. I had a dagger on me already that rarely left its sheath as it was the only thing I had that belonged to my father. I rejoined the group as Jace finally started talking.
"Come on, Val." My younger brother said with a sigh. I shook my head to clear it of my thoughts as I slipped into hunting mode and joined my brother and our friends at the door.
"Have fun being the distraction." I said to Isabelle as we all split up to watch the demon who was supposedly selling the mundane blood tonight.
Izzy smirked as I withdrew my stele and redrew the faded glamour rune before I walked away with Jace and Alec on my heels.
Alec stopped at a fruit stand. Izzy got higher ground. Jace and I followed Izzy's example and also got higher ground. When the other two joined us we all jumped down and landed gracefully on our feet before we continued following behind the demon. I glanced around making sure we had no demons following behind us, while Alec grabbed a hold of my arm knowingly. We walked toward the club with no problem of any mundane seeing us and without other potential demons following us. I smirked before it quickly vanished when Jace bumped into a mundane girl with red hair.
"Hey can you watch where you're going?" The mundane said--- looking directly at Jace.
Instead of ignoring her my brother turned and looked at her as well. "You can see me?" He asked, surprised. I could understand why though, no one had ever seen us thanks to the glamours but even though Jace was glamoured the girl could still see him. It was the first time since any of us have encountered someone with the Sight.
"That's kind of the point, but you obviously didn't see me." The mundane said.
"You have the Sight." Jace stated.
"Wait, the what?" I groaned in annoyance as I caught the confused look on the girl's face. I looked at Alec who looked just as annoyed as I did that Jace -who was always focused on the mission- was now distracted.
"Jace!" Alec and I both called out to my brother. He finally moved and we entered the club where thankfully Izzy was already distracting the demon buyers so we could slip in unnoticed. I didn't catch sight of the two Circle members who watched as I walked past them and continued on my way let alone realize that they were the actual buyers of the mundane blood. I stood closer to the shadows with Alec while Jace and Izzy stood front and center. I quietly slipped a knife out of my belt as Izzy grabbed the demon's attention. I waited until every single one of them concentrated on my best friend and for Jace to make the first move. I caught sight of his seraph blade lighting up and smirked before I growled in annoyance at the red-head from earlier.
"Watch out!" The mundane screamed and ran forward to push the demon away from my brother. That split second of him losing his focus almost cost me the last family I had left. Jace pushed the mundane away and quickly killed the demon as I moved out of the shadows and threw the knife towards the farthest one. I grabbed one of my blades and smirked as it lit up as one of the demons ran for me. When we finally got the last one -me since it was sneaking up on both Alec and Jace- I failed to notice the red-head running out of sight.
"What happened to never lose focus, Jace?" I asked my brother as we left the club. "The one who is always on top of the mission until the demon is dead?" I was pissed off and all three of them knew it. "We've already lost our parents. I'm not willing to lose my brother too." I growled out before I stormed away with the others following behind me. We quickly debriefed Hodge on what happened before I ran back up to my room. I slammed my door shut and screamed in frustration. I tossed my weapons to the side and changed into some pajamas before I crawled into bed unaware of what was coming in the next few days. Hurry up and come home Lucy, I thought.
