Val's POV

Alec pulled me all the way up to the office. I pulled away from his touch the moment we were behind closed doors.

"She needs to fucking leave." I was seething. I could barely remember my mom, so I didn't know what it felt like to lose her when I was a year old. I could, however, remember what it felt like when my own father was killed before my eyes.

"You know your brother won't let that happen." Alec said calmly.

"She's going to get us killed. Hell she almost got Jace killed." I said as I took a calming breath. "I can't lose my brother." I whispered.

"I know." He whispered back. I could feel him standing behind me. I turned around to face him and took a small step back not expecting him that close to me. I caught sight of the pained look on his face as he thought about life without his parabatai. I shocked myself as I pulled the raven-haired boy into a hug.

Izzy's POV

I carried a tray of food into my room where the mundane best friend was waiting.

"So, uh, what happens to humans if they're uh..." He broke off but motioned with his hands. "Runed?"

"They usually die. Sometimes they go crazy. When that happens we call them Forsaken. Then we kill them." I said.

"Right." Simon said. "So the rune on Clary's neck..."

"A healing rune. Jace used it to save her life." I told him.

"So Jace knew she was a Shadowhunter?"

"He was almost certain. The only thing that made him second guess himself about it was Valkyrie." I told him honestly. I almost smirked at the memory when I saw the doubt flash through the blonde's eyes as he realized his sister could be telling the truth. Simon moved to get up. I got up and flashed in front of him. "Where could you possibly be going?"

"To get Clary. To protect her from Jace and his sister."

"And why would she need protection from Jace and Val?" I asked, annoyed knowing my best friend wouldn't risk pissing off her brother. "They're the ultimate protectors."

"What makes them so special?" Simon asked.

"Fastest, strongest, and fiercest." I said. "And hello, have you seen the two?"

"Yeah well..." Simon stuttered. "Sorry I asked."

"Rest easy. Clary's in good hands." I said, truthfully. Both Val and Alec were wary of the girl already since she was coming between the siblings as well as the parabatai. "Val won't touch her so not to piss off her brother. They are the only Waylands left since the death of their father. Besides, Val's most likely with my brother ranting about how much she dislikes Clary."

Val's POV

I found myself in Isabelle's room later on. Alec and I stayed in the office until I was fine enough to not search for Clary and strangle her. I also made a promise to Jace to try and get along with the other red-head and that's how I found myself in Isabelle's room only minutes later.

"This is the least revealing thing you have?" Clary said as she glanced in the mirror.

"All the naughty bits are covered." Izzy and I said simultaneously.

"A little too much in my opinion." Izzy added.

"Where's Simon?" Clary asked.

"Who?" I was confused since I didn't stick around for the introductions earlier.
