The Uneasy Heart

Chapter 8

Val's POV

I stayed in that room with the twins for the rest of the night telling them everything Luke had told me before I left him and Clary. Lucy left after a while to help Magnus while the others fell asleep. At some point Alec, who had pulled me into him the second I collapsed, stood up, holding me and walked over to the bed. We were both exhausted from the day and quickly fell asleep. When we finally woke up it was to the smell of coffee. We both got up and grabbed our shoes and headed out into the living room. I smiled gratefully at Magnus who passed me a cup of coffee before Alec and I left and headed back to the Institute.

I caught sight of Lucy and Izzy by one of the monitors talking when we walked inside. I headed up toward the bedrooms while Alec stayed behind and dealt with his sisters. I made my way into my room and dug through my closet for an outfit before I made my way into the ensuite bathroom for a quick shower. I dried off quickly and got dressed in a black spaghetti strap crop top and a pair of black pants. For the first time in a week I let my red hair air dry curling into my natural curls and pulled on a pair of black boots and grabbed my leather jacket before making my way back out of my room to be met with the Lightwood siblings.

Alec's POV

I watched Val walk away as we caught sight of my sisters standing by one of the monitors.

"Did you both fall asleep at Magnus'?" Lucy asked.

"Didn't do much sleeping. We helped treat Luke's wounds." I told my twin. "Besides whatever Luke told her took its toll, so when I wasn't helping with Luke I was trying to comfort her."

"Really?" Izzy asked.

"What?" I asked my youngest sister.

"Nothing. I believe you." She replied. "When you're ready to talk about whatever you need to talk about, we're here." She added as both girls shared a look.

"I talk to you." I told them, confused.

"About everything but your personal life." Izzy said.

"Especially when we talk to you about ours." Lucy added. "Besides I know you love my parabatai."

"And for example, I broke up with Merliorn." Izzy said

"Really?" I aimed toward my younger sister. "Turning over a new leaf?"

"Stop picking on your sister." I turned around and saw Val walking toward us. "Where the hell is Jace?" She asked.

"Still not back." Lucy said.

"Dammit." I muttered as I glanced at my phone. "Jace needs backup." I add as I glance up at the other three. They all groaned before they walked over into the weapons room and grabbed a few weapons. Surprisingly Val stuck with seraph blades rather than grabbing her own bow. We headed out of the Institute and ran to meet up with Jace with me leading since our parabatai bond gave me an idea of where he was.

Val's POV

"Someone call for backup?" Izzy asked when we got to the NYPD,

"Yeah. What took you four so long?" Jace asked.

"I was gonna ask you the same thing." Alec and I said.

"It's complicated." Jace replied.

"We found the Cup." Clary said. I looked over at my sister with a narrowed gaze.

"The Cup?" I asked.

"Yeah but we lost it. We have to sneak back in the precinct to get it." Clary said, glancing anywhere but at me.

"This is a disaster." Alec muttered.

I ignored them as I tried to come up with a plan only stopping to glare at my sister when her phone started to ring.
