Val's POV

"Where the hell were the two of you?" Lydia asked when we entered the Institute.

"We went out to eat. Had to give some excuse to Hodge just so he'd let us go." I said. "Then on our way back we ran into Jace who told us what you planned on having Alec do. I'm pretty sure coming here to ruin a brother and sister relationship is not what you're supposed to be doing, Branwell." I spat before pushing her out of my way and heading toward my room. I stayed in my room for an hour before I finally calmed down enough to leave it and go back down to the Ops Center, only to overhear Raj talking to Lydia.

"I swear the one that got me... moved a lot like a Shadowhunter." Raj told her and the two looked over at Alec and Izzy. I walk over to Alec and Izzy.

"Raj just told Lydia that the person who got him moved like a Shadowhunter." I whispered. Izzy rolled her eyes and walked over to one of the monitors. Alec and I stayed where we were since Lucy quickly joined.

"What's going on?" Lucy asked.

"Don't know for sure but I think Lydia is suspecting that Izzy attacked the guards." I whispered just before Lydia walked over to us with her brother in tow.

"I'm sorry." Lydia said to Alec and Lucy.

"For what?" Alec asked. I looked up and noticed Raj walked up to Izzy while Elijah stood next to me.

"Isabelle Lightwood and Valkyrie Morgenstern, by order of the Clave, you are under arrest for high treason." Lydia said. I flinched when I heard my last name.

"On what grounds?" Lucy snapped at the female Branwell.

"Only a handful of people know about the Merliorn op. And only few know about the Downworld entrance to the Silent City." Lydia said.

"And everyone knows that your sister was sleeping with the Seelie." Raj said with a smirk.

"You know what Lydia? You're no better than Valentine." Izzy seethed toward her.

"At least my dad had the fucking guts to tell Downworlders to their faces he wanted them dead. You hide behind the Law." I added from my spot.

"I don't hide behind it. I simply follow it. Because it guards against one very important thing. Shadowhunters fighting other Shadowhunters." Lydia replied, slightly scared of me.

"If they're convicted, they'll be deruned and banished. We can't let that--" Alec and Lucy began.

"Don't. It's not your fight anymore." Izzy said as she handed over her stele to Raj.

"It's more to it than me knowing the entrance isn't it, Lydia?" I asked. She looked away from me. "My arrest came straight from Inquisitor Herondale didn't it? Because my father is the reason she lost everything, so now she's going to try and hurt him by taking everything he once had. Newsflash bitch he didn't give a damn about me after my mother left him. He killed my brother. You want to de-rune me? Fine." I handed my stele over to Elijah. "Just know he won't fall for it. Love destroyed him and my family." I add as Elijah leads me away.

Alec's POV

I walked away from Lydia after her brother led Val away.

"You have to stop this Alec. If Val's deruned I lose a piece of myself too." Lucy said as she followed behind me.

"I know that, but I don't know how I'm gonna stop it." I tell my twin who was now on edge at the thought of losing her parabatai.

"Go talk to your fiancé." She spat the word fiancé at me. I cringed at it and I knew my twin caught it. "Why the hell would you propose to her when you know that you love Val?"
