"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" David said. He kept his eyes on me as he walked forward on mechanical legs. This confused me, but I said nothing. Tobias looked ready to kill, and Caleb looked truly scared. "Don't you look... alive. I thought I killed you." This startled me, and I took a step back. "I... failed?" I asked, completely heartbroken. I didn't wipe everyone's memories? I died for nothing?

Caleb looked confused, and so did Tobias. "No, Tris, you succeeded. You wiped everyone's memories. What's going on?" Tobias demanded. David looked amused. "Oh, catch up!" I was relieved that it worked, but now I was just as confused as everyone else. "I'm not stupid. I knew what your plan was. I also knew if I failed to stop you, I would lose my memory. So, before I killed you, I gave myself the serum you used to keep your memories. I played dumb to save my own skin, and I've been keeping an eye on you ever since.

"I've been watching you work Caleb. I saw the whole thing. I watched you bring her back; and I must say I'm impressed. But too bad it was for nothing. I'm going to kill her; and I'm going to make sure she stays dead this time. It's too bad; we could've been great friends, if it weren't for all this. Why'd you have to bring her back, Caleb? Things were perfect the way they were. You would have gotten over Tris's death. But no, you brought her back just so she could die again."

As he said this last part, he whipped a gun out from behind him and directed it at my head. Surprised, my eyes widened. Then he said, "But first, I need to make sure of two things. A) that Four over here doesn't get all heroic and save her, and B) that you-" He pointed at Caleb as he said this-"Don't bring her back." I wasn't sure exactly who he was talking to, but it didn't matter. This man is a psychopath. Then he added, "I set a bomb in the serum storage room, so that's over with. Now I just have to deal with you."

Suddenly, he turned his gun on Tobias. I knew what was happening as he pulled the trigger, but I was helpless to stop it. I was forced to watch in horror as the bullet lodged itself in my boyfriend's abdomen.
