"You're late," Cara growled in annoyance, tapping her foot. "Sorry," Tris mumbled, Tobias' arm around her waist.

"Where were you?"

"We walked down the beach for a bit, then went to the ferris wheel," Tobias answered, shrugging.

"The ferris wheel was not approved of!"

Tris laughed. "C'mon, Cara, calm down." She walked up to Cara and gave her a hug. Cara screeched, outraged, but Tris held on tightly until she relaxed and hugged her back. "Ok, ok, I'm calm, you can let go now!" Tris let go, laughing, and Cara laughed, too.

I smiled. Then I noticed something sparkle on Tris' finger.

Tris

I'm deciding how to tell Caleb and Cara about the engagement when Caleb says, "What's on your finger?"

I mentally cringed. I had not planned this out.

I glanced at my fiancé for help, but he just shook his head. Great.

"Um, I wanted to tell you..." Suddenly Cara stepped forward and grabbed my hand, staring at the ring. She looked up at me slowly, then to Tobias, and back to me.

"You're engaged?!" she shrieked.

"Surprise..."

"OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS! THAT'S WHY YOU WERE LATE?! WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST SAY SO?!"

I flinched, resisting the urge to cover my ears. Caleb stood frozen, and then a smile slowly formed on his lips. He ran up and hugged me before I had time to react.

He hugged me tightly for a long time, and I hugged him back.

When he pulled away, Cara was still bouncing up and down. This was the girliest I had ever seen Cara.

Caleb looked surprised, too, and so did Tobias. But Cara didn't seem to notice. She stopped bouncing and wrapped her arms around me tightly.

"Cara-can't-breathe!"

"Oops, sorry." She let me go and smiled sheepishly. "Can I help plan the wedding?" she asked suddenly. I looked to Tobias, who shrugged (some help he was).

"Sure!" I said brightly, and Cara squealed. She started running upstairs, mumbling about how she needed to get started immediately.

Caleb looked bewildered. "What just happened?" he asked. "I have no clue," I breathed.

Suddenly my stomach churned, and I leaned against the wall for support. "Tris, you alright?" Tobias asked. He and Caleb were looking at me worriedly.

"Um, yeah...I'm just gonna go lie down,"I assured them.

Tobias nodded. "I'll come, too."

He put an arm around my waist and helped me up the stairs while I leaned on him for support. Caleb was left downstairs, rubbing his forehead in frustration.
