Franklin Lakes

Something happened when we got back home to Franklin Lakes. We got back on Sunday night and couldn't wait to run upstairs to fall into each other's arms. But grandma and mommy had different ideas.

"Bobby, Gaby, come get all this stuff out the car. We gotta clean the cooler before it gets all stinky inside."

"I'd never hated mommy, or grandma more. It was 11:30 by the time we finished, but still I was grateful for now I could go upstairs and have Gaby all to myself. That night we kissed and squirmed into each other all through the night. We would take breaks from kissing and just stare into each other's eyes, or cuddle for a while before going at it again. Another thing I found out about Gaby is that she always wanted more and more. It's like I awoken a beast in her.

The next day, Monday we went off to school. I couldn't concentrate on anything for thinking of how I just wanted tree o'clock to come around so we could go home and fall into each other's arms. But something happened that day. When we got home, Gaby started acting weird. She did not seem like the wild little fox of the past few days. Instead, she set her books up in the kitchen table, sat down and started doing homework.

Gaby, what are you doing?"

"I'm doing homework Bobby. Can't you see that."

"Yeah, but, but." I stammered, " I thought you wanted to go upstairs.

"It's easier doing homework down here. Besides, it too hot upstairs.

I was dumbfounded. I didn't understand, didn't want to understand. All I wanted was to feel her lips on mine and her body pressing against me. I tried one more time.

"Gaby, are you sure you don't want to go upstairs? It came out more like a pleading than a question.

"Yeah Bobby, I'm sure. Now leave me alone."

I was heartbroken. Had she changed her mind about us? What could have happened from this morning to now. The only thing that came to my mind was that she probably had a boyfriend I did not know about and she probably saw him in school today. But I knew she didn't because Gaby just didn't like boys, although all her friends her age had already had two or three. But still, my confused mind and aching heart told me she must have a boyfriend she was keeping from me. Why else would she be acting like this?

"I stormed back into the kitchen.

"Gaby, you got a boyfriend? You better tell me cause Ima find out anyway!"

Startled, she turned around in her chair, threw her pencil at me and yelled back, "What, you crazy Bobby? What's the matter with you?"

"If you got a boy friend you better tell me, cause Ima find out anyway and then, and then, and then you're really gonna be in trouble."

She jumped out of the chair, walked up to me and shoved me in the chest with both hands. I almost stumbled over one of the kitchen chairs. She knew she could do that, and I wouldn't do anything. I hated that.

"Bobby, If I got a boyfriend it aint none of your b.i. business. I could have a hundred boyfriends if I want to, and I don't have to tell you. What, all of a sudden you're my father?"

I was so angry, I could feel my face getting red.

"Yeah, well I better not find out you got a boyfriend Gaby. I swear if I do..."

"If you do what?"

I was about to go over and put my face in hers to let her know I meant business when suddenly from the other room I hear grandma's voice. In my anger and confusion, I had forgotten about grandma. She had been snoozing in her favorite couch in the living room as was her habit at this time of day.
