CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Theo's birthday will be on two days and I'm super excited. He as been stressing himself out with work and still comes home to help with the baby, even some chores I wasn't able to finish during the day.

I am so grateful to have him on my life and I'm even more grateful for the bundle of joy he gave me. Avan gave me purpose and my love for him is unconditionally.

My man is finally gonna be thirty years old. I'm really excited for him though he doesn't seem excited.

We are all planning a surprise party for him. He as been so busy I'm sure he hasn't even suspected that anything was going on.

"So..... I've already invited most of his colleagues and friends but girlfriend you don't have any of the man's family members on this list wassup with that?"

I knew Ash was gonna realize and call out on it. I stopped cutting up the carrots and turned to her.

"I dunno Ash, Theo as refused to tell me anything about family or allow me to meet them. So for now that's all we have I'm the list."

I shrugged and got back to cutting.

"Why the hell not? I mean y'all have been together for a long time and you guys have a baby together. Something is up there."

"It's fine. Let's just leave it be and focus on other things."

"No it's not fine Zuri, is he ashamed of you or something? I mean I have met Jeff's parents already, and girl they cool, but that's not the point, you should really think about why he as refused and I could also ask Jeff to tell is something."

"I don't want to talk about this anymore. Let's just finish planning so everything is perfect and you still have not told me of you got the DJ."

She looked at me suspiciously but then sighed.

"Ok whatever and yes I got the DJ."

I've been thinking about what Ash said and even though I knew Theo loves me, I couldn't help but to think that maybe she was right. Maybe he was ashamed of me.

Was I too fat? Or is it my skin color? Maybe his family doesn't like the idea of him dating a black girl.

Time went by quickly and before I knew it, it was dark outside. Ash left a few hours ago after we finalized the venue and everything.

I just put Avan to sleep and was finally able to eat my dinner. I was gonna wait for Theo but I'm hella hungry.

Jane the Virgin was playing on the TV and I was loving it. Though I think Jane was spoiling Matteo way too much and she is a really paranoid mother, though I don't blame her.

I heard the keys rattling outside and then Theo walked in. I looked at the time and realized it was past ten o clock. I can't believe how much time as gone since I started watching the TV.

"Hey baby. I'm sorry I got back so late. I should have called and told you I was working late."

He came and kissed my forehead.

"It's ok I'm just glad you're home."

"Why are you up anyways? Aren't you tired?"

He asked placing his briefcase on the floor and started taking off his jacket.

"No I'm not. You can go have a shower while I warm up your food."

He nodded and kissed me again but in my cheek this time. He took up his back and went upstairs.

I watched him walk away and I noticed a red spot on the collar of his shirt. Trying not to think about it I went to get his food.

About fifteen minutes later he came down but was avoiding my eyes.

"How was your day baby?"

He asked as he sat down and began to eat.

"It was good, same ole same ole. How was yours?"

"Very stressing I had to fire my assistant today because she thought it would be ok to try and get cosy with me and now I need a new assistant immediately."

He sighed and continued eating still not looking at me.

"Baby look at me."

I said and watched as he tensed up. He put down the fork and ran his hands down his face and then he finally looked at me.

"Is that why you had a red spot on your shirt? Because of your assistant?"

His eyes grew wide and his mouth open. He seemed as if he was gonna say something but decided against it.

"Why aren't you answering my question?"

"Sweetheart there's nothing for you to worry about. Just go to bed now, you must be tired."

"Theo, why can't I meet your family and be honest and don't tell me to leave it alone. Are you ashamed of me or something. We have a child together and I can't meet your family!? We've been together for about a year now, what are you waiting for?"

By now I was standing and shouting not too loud because I didn't want to wake up the baby.

"I think you should calm down baby. Have a seat and calm down-"

"Don't tell me to calm down! You have yet to explain the mark and you are very hesitant about me meeting your family or them meeting me."

"Are you accusing me of cheating?"

I didn't say anything. What was I suppose to say. I don't even know what I'm doing right now.

"Baby you know I'd never cheat on you so please don't think like that."

He said caressing my face.

"Just tell me.... please."

He ran his hand through his hair and them took both my hands in his.

"The reason I didn't want you to know about my family or them about you is because I come from a dangerous family and you the moment you are seen with me around them, you are a target. And I don't want that for you or our baby."

"I don't understand."

I frowned.

"Zuri..... My family is apart of a Mafia."
