You and Spock entered the carriage as the others rode horses around the carriage. As you watched the scenery pass, you could feel the anxiety start to grip onto your ribcage with every passing citizen out of the window. You began fidgeting with your dress as your thoughts gave in to the anxiety and worries.
"Princess, are you alright?" Spock questioned, interrupting your train of thought.
"Yes. I'm sorry I accidentally spaced off." You smiled.
"You were also feeling anxious, correct?" He added. You nodded and he let out a small sigh. "I did do some research last night after you left, and for some, physical touch helps. Is this the case for you?"
"Yes actually, physical touch with someone I am comfortable with often helps."
"Are you comfortable with me? If not, I understand."
"Well- out of everyone here outside of Chekov, yes. But the question is will you be comfortable with this, sir?"
"My comfort should not be your worry at this moment. If you wish, you can hold onto my arm when we exit."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it." You smiled. "I know that we are going to the square, but what shops are there?" You changed the subject.
"There are clothing stores, grocers, book stores, and even a theater with performances."
"Both bookstores and a theater?" You asked with a smirk.
"Yes, would you like to go to either one of those?"
"If possible, could we go to both?"
"We can easily do that. The bookstores are never busy, and we can easily get a box at the theater. Are you scared of heights by any chance?"
"Yes, but luckily it is a fear that I can deal with."
"Alright." He nodded. The carriage stopped, and a knock was sound on the door.
"Your majesties, we've arrived." A guard stated while opening the door. You held onto Spock's arm loosely as you two exited the carriage and out into the square. The Vulcan population continued on like everything was normal, but the human citizens spoke with hushed voices that were filled with excitement. You looked down, feeling their gaze bore into your very being. You felt a small pat on your arm and looked up to see Spock's worried eyes.
"Are you going to be alright?" He whispered to you.
"Yes, this is all just so new to me." You sighed.
"I understand. If it brings you comfort, they are not saying anything bad about you."
"You can hear what they're talking about?" You asked as the two of you and the guards walked.
"Yes, Vulcans have an extremely good sense of hearing."
"Ah, yes. You have superior senses to humans. I forgot about that." You chuckled. Eventually, you made it to the bookstore and a smile grew on your face as you breathed in that new book smell. "Does this place carry any fantasy novels?" You asked as you gracefully disconnected yourself from your partner.
"Yes, if you would follow me, I can show you where they are." He replied. He took lead and led you to the back of the store to an aisle of an array of colorful books. You ran your fingers over the spines of the books as you read each title, You saw The Last Unicorn within those shelves and took it out.
"Are you familiar with this book?" He asked.
"Somewhat. I remember reading it once as a kid when my mother snuck me a few books from the city library, though my father found out and I wasn't allowed to read many fantasy books. He said that fiction would give me too many wild ideas and turn me to rebellion, so I was forced to read nonfiction. Though my mother would sneak me old sonnets and short poems to read when we were alone." You explained.
"That is quite unfortunate, I remember enjoying the book as a child, though my father feels the same about fiction. If you wish, I could buy it for you." He offered. Your eyes grew wide as you looked up at him.
"Are you certain?" You questioned.
"Yes, you can buy more than one if you want." He offered. Once he said that you pulled The Princess Bride off of a shelf with a mischievous smile and you swore you could see his mouth twitch as he fought off a smile. "Is that all?"
"Yes, I believe these two will be enough for me as of now. I'm sure if I ever want more, I could visit again sometime or go to the library." You responded. He nodded and took you to the register.
"May I?" He asked as he held out his hand to take the two hardcover books. You nodded and handed them over to him. He exchanged his currency for the books and handed them back to you. You then exited and entered the carriage once more as Spock instructed the coach to take you to the theater.
