Chapter 7: Books

Allison's POV

"Hey wait." Cadence caught up to me when I was heading out of class. "Is...your knee okay?" She asked.

"Oh, yeah," I looked at my knee, raising it a bit to see if it hurt. "I guess so?" I wasn't really sure cause it kind of hurt a little but it'll be fine. I hope.

"So, um...This friday, you're coming right?" She sounded hopeful. But wait, when did she and Antoine become friends?

"I am. I mean I don't have anything else to do." I replied. "I have a question. How did you and Antoine become friends?"

"It happened in the cafeteria. I knew he was also new because he was sitting alone so I joined him." She smiled and continued. "Antoine is actually really nice and also his new friends too."

"I'm glad you made friends. People here usually aren't friendly." I said, recalling the memory, the time I found out a rumor about me making out with someone in the library. It wasn't true, damn. It was literally the 1st week of class and making out with someone? Jesus. Thankfully, the rumor died down. Mom didn't get mad at me because she knew it wasn't true.

"Oh yeah, I texted Savannah that we're on our way to the library. She said she'll see us in a few after her last class at 2 pm." She stated. I nodded

"Okay, let's wait there. I'll do my English homework there while waiting." I replied. I didn't want to do any homework at home.

We were in the library now and students were either studying, eating, or sleeping. I didn't know how they snuck food here but anyway, the librarian didn't seem to care.

We sat at a table near a window where you could see the field. The view from up here was just so amazing. I watch Cadence awed at the sight. It was adorable. I sat down and pulled out my homework and started working on it. Cadence spoke after a few minutes.

"Wait, don't you need a book? A reference for that?" She asked, quietly.

"No? It's quite easy actually," I looked at her. She just returned a confused look and shook her head. She pulled out a book, a novel perhaps, and started reading. 'So she likes to read.' I thought.

A few minutes after, I was done with my homework and she seemed to be bored with what she was reading. I stood up to find a book to read, but she also stood up as well and followed me with a bored face. I stopped at my favorite section of the library and I watched Cadence's eyes as they lit up when she realized. She ran to check out the books and was really excited about it. I smiled at her immaturity. So I also went to choose one as well, just to waste time. We were standing next to each other.

"Oh my God, wait." She reached for a book and showed it to me. "This is actually my favorite. I had one like this when I was 9, but I lost it at school. Maybe someone found it and threw it away." We laughed.

"They didn't return it?" I asked. She nodded and returned the book from the shelf and pulled out another one. "Oh, I recommend that one," I said as soon as I saw the book cover.

"What's it about?" She asked while opening the book reading the first page.

"It's a thriller. It has a lot of mysteries." I replied. "I love that one." Then I went back to looking at other books from the other side. Cadence was reading the book.

"Hey, what happened to the wom-" She asked then suddenly when I turned around, the next thing I knew-

She was on top of me.
