Chapter 27: A Date with Sam

Allison's POV

"I want to do something fun, but not tiring, you know?" Cadence said on the other line of the call.

It was Saturday. Cadence and I were just talking on the phone, bored and not knowing what to do. I was just playing games on my Xbox.

"Well, do you have anything particular in mind?" I asked. "What do you want to do?"

She was silent for a second. She was thinking of something. I hope her brain is okay, though.

"I want to go out," she suddenly said.

"Right now...?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Yep!" She cleared her throat, "Would you care to join me? We can make it a date if you'd like."

She said in a weird accent that I wasn't sure where it was from.

I laughed, "Why not?"

"Thank you!"

"You dork, you could've just told me you wanted to go on a date." I laughed as I told her.

"Well, we are going on one now, right?" She said.

"That is true. Let's meet at the park at 2?"

"Yes. I'll see you then."

"See you."

We ended the call and got ready. After I was done, I went downstairs to let my mom know that I was going out. But I couldn't ask her right away because she looked troubled about something. I wanted to ask what was wrong but she asked me first.

She looked at me, "Where are you going?"

"I was just about to let you know that I'm going out but, what's wrong, mom?"

She sighed deeply, "My friend asked me to look after her child for two days because they're going on a business trip. She couldn't find a nanny so she called me. It wouldn't be a problem if she let me know a few days earlier. But I can't pick the child up right now because I'm also on my way to a meeting. I can't also ask your sister to do it because she's busy with school."

"You know I can just do that for you, right?"

"But aren't you going on a date?"

"I am, but I can also pick up the child and take care of them until later."

"Are you sure you're okay with that?"

"Yes, mother."

She hugged me, "Thank you. I'll text you their address. I have to—"

"I know, mom. You're running late, now go. See you later, take care."

She smiled, "See you later, kiddo. Have fun and stay safe also."

Then she was gone. I texted Cadence to let her know that I'm going to pick something up on the way so I might be a little late.

"Thank you so much, Allison! I owe you and your mom." The pretty lady shook my hand.

"Oh no, it's really alright. I'll take care of him." I assured her.

She nodded and kneeled down to her child who was holding my hand. "Be good, okay? Mommy will be back real soon." The kid just nodded in return, she then stood up and handed me a bag, "Here are the things he needs. Again, thank you."
