Maria Hill stood behind the desk, the target number rapidly dropping to 3, and showing the 3 helicarriers under a red target. The helicarrier's weapons all turned towards each other.
"Okay Cap, get out of there," she spoke to him over the comms.
Steve remained slouched against the datapoint. He tore his eyes away from the bloodied girl in front of him when he heard Maria's voice.
The pain of the gunshot wounds shot through him as he tried to bring himself to his feet. He wouldn't make it out of there in time, he had no choice.
"Fire now."
Maria's mouth dropped open, ready to argue with the man, but Steve cut her off.
"Do it! Do it now!"
As Maria's fingers tapped on the screen below her, Steve tried to pull himself towards the body lying in front of him.
With every slight movement, he felt the firey pain of the bullets, one which was still lodged within him, as there was no exit wound when he got shot in the back.
He used his forearm to drag himself over to the girl, who had gone limp for a while now.
He heard the guns of the helicarrier fire up and begin to shoot. He felt the helicarrier rock as it received its own shots from the other two aircrafts.
The structure around him began to shutter, eventually, beams and parts of the ceiling began to fall around him.
He was close to her, oh so close.
The Soldier's scream ripped through the air as he struggled to move out from underneath a fallen beam.
Steve pulled himself to his feet and held his weight against the railing. His eyes darted between the two, a raging decision in his head. Then he remembered what Natasha had said.
"It's either them both, or nothing at all."
The man gritted his teeth as he stepped away from the railing and scooped the female into his arms. He quickly kicked back the railing along the gangway, leaping through the gap and landing carefully on the glass below. It cracked under their weight, the structural integrity of the dome beginning to fail with the numerous shots that penetrated its exterior.
He set the girl down and raced over to the trapped man. He felt the helicarrier being to drop in height, stumbling side to side before reaching Bucky.
He was still yelling in pain when Steve reached him. He was so desperately trying to push the beam off himself, but Steve knew he needed help.
That didn't mean the Soldier wouldn't take his chance.
Steve brought his hands underneath the beam and pulled with all his might. Bucky quickly wriggled his way out from underneath and dragged himself to his feet.
